Hi I'm Hugh

I'm Irish, a student of Engineering, and I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I grew up in County Kerry, on the southwest coast of Ireland, where I spent most of my time outside, playing in fields, swimming in rivers, climbing mountains and getting rained on. A lot. From there I moved on from living in the middle of nowhere on the side of a mountain looking over the sea, to living in the big city of Dublin, to attend University. There, I spent most of my time hanging out with various friends, playing pool and soccer, sleeping-in and procrastinating study until the day before important exams. (Please don't tell my Mom about those last two things). I then left to live in the beautiful land of Ontario, Canada, where I served a 2-year, full-time mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. Although I love my home and my life, leaving it behind for 2 years to go and serve the Lord was the greatest decision that I have ever made, and the things that I have learned as a result, will affect every decision that I ever make for the rest of my life.

Why I am a Mormon

I am a Mormon, firstly, because I have an amazing Mother who had the courage to become a member of the Church and the strength to continue faithfully in it ever since. I choose to continue faithfully in it myself, because of the numerous experiences that I have had, that leave me without out a doubt that the things I have been taught since childhood are true. I do not live the teachings of the Church because somebody told me that I should, but I live them because I know through experience, that when I do, I am happy. I am at peace. I am confident in the knowledge of who I really am. I am a better person because of it, and because of the peace and joy and confidence that it gives me, I love being a part of it.

How I live my faith

Right now, as a full-time volunteer missionary for the Church, I dedicate every waking moment to helping others understand and live the Gospel of Jesus Christ. I teach people about the Gospel, I invite them to do things that will strengthen their faith in Jesus Christ, because I know, that nothing will bring greater peace, happiness and self-worth into our lives, than a relationship with our Heavenly Father and our Savior Jesus Christ. I live my faith by doing my best, to forget about myself and focus on serving others in the best way possible, and nothing has ever made me happier.
