Hi I'm Colette

I love art, cooking and business. Sometimes all at once. Oh, and I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I recently found a love in oil painting. Right now I am working on landscapes and scenes with trees and bushes. There is something magical about putting color to a canvas that up close looks like a bunch of brush strokes but when you stand back a picture comes forth. I've even had some fun with the pallet knife when I made some aspen trees. Cooking is also a lot of fun. It helps me relieve any stress I might have and just stew in my own thoughts. (pun intended). My mom is a really good cook so I grew up learning all the good secrets that none of my roommates ever learned. Speaking of roommates, I recently got my bachelors in Business Management. I especially loved my logistics and supply chain classes.

Why I am a Mormon

I started out being a Mormon because I was born of goodly parents who taught me the gospel. I am still a Mormon because I love the sense of inner peace and love that I receive whenever I read from the scriptures or pray to my Father in Heaven. There are so many things in this world that try to sway a person from knowing who they are. They might even try to ridicule those that say they believe. But when you feel that love and peace and confirmation in your heart and mind that what you have read/heard/seen is true, then nothing can dissuade you from it. We seek after things that are lovely, of good report or praiseworthy. I seek after them as well.

How I live my faith

I recently returned from serving a full time mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (i.e. Mormon Church). I helped others learn more about what our Heavenly Father would have his children do to be happy. We served everyone and anyone we could. One time we helped a family with yard work and another time we helped a lady fold her laundry and do her dishes. We also taught those that were interested in learning more and met with them to increase their knowledge and faith in Jesus Christ. My main purpose was to help others come unto Christ and find that joy in their life that is available for everyone that seek after it. Since being home I have been able to see how the gospel is able to influence all I do. I still try to find ways to help others around me. That's the amazing thing about the gospel of Jesus Christ: we can always share His love with those around us.

Are all Mormons required to serve a mission?

Colette
Simple answer: No. Not so simple answer: We believe everyone has the right to choose for themselves whether or not they want to share the gospel with other people. For those that do want to share there are many ways they can do that. First, we work towards being good examples of Christ and what he would do in our place. We also work towards answering questions anyone might have concerning our beliefs. Sometimes, if possible, we can set aside 18 - 24 months of our life to completely devout to our Heavenly Father and teaching others. A lot of emphasis is put on the young men of our church to take 2 years to help others come unto Christ, but ultimately it depends on whether or not they choose to go. Less emphasis is put on the young women of the church but it is still their decision. Also, older couples who have retired, can set aside time to go together to help the church grow.
