Hi I'm Carter Maughan

I'm a man with a purpose. I love my family. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I recently graduated from a community college with my Associates degree, just a year after graduating from High School. I'm nineteen years old and I am now serving a mission in Guadalajara, Mexico. Growing up, I enjoyed playing sports and being outside. During High School I played soccer, rugby, and ran track, sang in the school choir, and maintained a 4.2 GPA. I love snowboarding, surfing, camping, hiking, and pretty much any other high adventure sport. When I grow up, I plan on having a family of my own. I want to be an Orthodontist and eventually own my own practice. Family is a huge part of my life. When I was twelve years old, my parents divorced. It was a very hard time for me, but my siblings and I have become very close. I have a step-dad and a step-mom and three step siblings. It's fun but challenging to get along with everyone but I've come to love everyone in my family so much. I can't wait to have a family of my own that I know I will be able to live with forever.

Why I am a Mormon

I am a Mormon because of the happiness it brings me. When I am choosing the right and making good decisions and following my Heavenly Father and my Savior Jesus Christ, life is good. Even though there are many hard things to deal with in my life, I feel peace and comfort knowing that the Lord is on my side. I know that Joseph Smith restored the fullness of the Gospel in these latter days. I know that President Thomas S. Monson is a true and living prophet and that he leads and guides our church today. I know that families can be together forever. I know that my Heavenly Father loves me and that He sent His son to die for me and to atone for my sins so that I might live with Him someday.

How I live my faith

Thankfully for me, I grew up in the church and had lots of friends that were part of the church as well. Still though, there have been times that I have had to stand up for what I believe in. These times are very difficult for me but after I have made the right decision, I feel so much better. During the past few months I have really come to believe for myself in the Church and in Heavenly Father's plan for me. I have been getting ready for my mission and have felt Christ's atoning love and His influence as I have completely turned to Him and given up myself for Him. By doing the small things everyday, I come closer to my Heavenly Father. Scripture study and prayers are extremely important to me as they help me remember my purpose in life and the goals that I want to achieve. For about 7 months, I was called to be a teacher for the 10 and 11 year old kids in my ward. I learned a lot from them and was able to understand love and charity on a whole new level. In my life, I have experienced many hard trials and sorrows, but as I have turned to my Heavenly Father and Savior Jesus Christ, They have lifted me up and helped me to keep going. I love Them and am so grateful for all that they have done for me in my life in helping me live my faith.
