Hi I'm Kristen

I study political science, I want to travel the world, I'm a university instructor, and I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I received a MS in Political Science last summer, with an emphasis in International Politics and Theory. I currently work at a university, where I teach introductory-level courses. I also work with a grant center on-campus that does research in many diverse areas, such as public lands disputes, renewable energy development, voter intitiatives, public choice, and political economy. Life is keeping me busy, as I am working on two books, articles, continuing research on precursors to ethnic conflict, such as dehumanization and hate speech, and helping to start a non-profit organization. I am a self-professed nerd who enjoys reading, intellectual discussions, horseback riding, playing the piano, and learning the guitar. I try to pick up a new hobby every year, and this year, it looks like I'm going to start slacklining.

Why I am a Mormon

I have prayed and received a personal witness that the gospel of Jesus Christ in its fullness is here on the earth today, and that we can come closer to God through the gospel principles taught in the LDS faith than through any other means. I know that the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints is the Lord's church, that He stands at the head of the church, and that He has called prophets and apostles today to help us know what to do in these troubling times.

How I live my faith

Right now, I have the opportunity to meet with men and women of my age group at church and visit them periodically, where we strengthen and lift each other as we share our struggles, concerns, and questions, and where we talk about what we can do to become more Christlike. I feel so blessed to meet with them, to feel the deep and abiding love they have for the Lord, and to be strengthened by their examples. During the week, I strive to have a Christ-centered life through scripture study, prayer, and attending religious-based classes taught by members of the LDS church.
