Hi I'm Charlotte Davis Madsen

I'm a Mormon. I was born into a Mormon family in California. I am a mom of 5; grandma of 19; teacher of kindergarten.

About Me

I have been a Mormon since I was 8 yrs. old. The gospel has been a very important part of my life. I am a wife of a great husband, mom of 5 adult children, and the grandma of 19 grandchildren, ages 2 - 15 years. They are the heart of my life! I love to sew baby quilts, read, hike, and go to the beach. I also teach kindergarten and love to help children discover the world of reading. I enjoy learning and taking classes to improve my teaching. I hope to serve a full time mission with my husband for the church someday.

Why I am a Mormon

Although I have been a member of the church since I was small, when I was a teen, I wanted my own testimony through the Holy Ghost. For about 2 or 3 months, I read the Book of Mormon each night and prayed to know if it was true. I didn't receive the witness I was seeking at that time. I had a great love and trust in my parents, so I decided to continue to live the gospel and walk by faith. I met and married my returned missionary husband in the LDS temple. He became an architect and I became a mother of 5 great kids. As my children grew, I relied on prayer to guide me as I nurtured and cared for them. I read the Book of Mormon or Bible daily. I tried to keep the commandments and I received answers to my prayers to guide my life. One night I was reading the Book of Mormon. I was reading Mosiah 15 in which the prophet Abinadi bore testimony of Jesus Christ as the Redeemer of the world. The power of the Holy Ghost came upon me so strong. At that moment, I knew undeniably several things. The Spirit testified to me that the words of Abinadi were true. I knew that Jesus is the Christ - the Savior of all mankind. I knew that the Book of Mormon is the true word of God. I knew that Joseph Smith is a prophet of God. Wow! I had the witness from the Spirit I sought many years before. Months Later, as I was preparing a lesson about Brigham Young, the prophet after Joseph Smith was martyred, I received another witness from the Spirit that he is the Lord's prophet also and I immediately knew our current prophet is the true prophet of God also. So many important truths revealed to me! I am not sure why the Lord wanted me to walk by faith for part of my life, but now I have the testimony I have always wanted I love the Savior with all my heart. I know He lives and has Atoned for our sins if we will repent and keep His commandments. I'm so grateful I never stopped believing!

How I live my faith

I seek to have the Spirit guide my life everyday. When we are baptized, we are given the gift of the Holy Ghost. This is a guide to help us make correct choices and brings much happiness. In order to "hear" the voice of the spirit, I find I need to be prayerful and strive to keep the commandments. Scripture study is important too. The words from the Spirit are felt in your heart and mind more than heard with your ears. I have been given answers to help me with my children, my husband, my callings as President of young women or teaching young children in Sunday School, or doing genealogy work. I have also asked for and received answers to prayers about my kindergarten teaching job. The Atonement of Christ is the best gift I have been given. The gift of the Holy Ghost is the next best gift I have ever been given. I can't imagine how different my life would be without this great guide from the Lord. Here is a short example of using the Spirit as my guide. When my son was about 9 months old, I was busily getting ready one morning to teach a seminar. I decided to get the car out of the garage so I could put materials in the trunk before I got ready for the day. I grabbed the keys and ran out quickly to pull the car out. I didn't realize that I didn't completely shut the door as I went out to the garage. Unknowingly, my baby crawled after me and was sitting directly in front of the tire. As I shifted the gear to drive out, a "voice" said in my heart and mind (as if it was my own thought), "What if Nick was sitting in front of your wheel?" I almost disregarded the thought, but the same words came to my mind again, but with much more force. I got out of the car and found my baby in front of the tire. I knew that day the that the Lord was constantly watching over me and I could not ignore the voice of the Spirit's direction ever again. I know He watches over and cares about each of us. We are His children.
