Hi I'm Allyson

I'm a college student preparing for a mission. I love music, friends, and family. I'm a mormon.

About Me

I live in a small town that is almost all LDS! It's so much fun to live around people who believe in the same things as me. I'm the oldest of 8 children, and I get lots of opportunities to babysit and spend time with my family. I also have great friends, and I love to listen to what they have to say and help them work through their problems. Throughout all my life I've had a great love for music. I love to sing, dance, and play piano and violin. I love working and being outside, especially during the summer. I love to laugh and have a good time. I am currently attending college to become an elementary school teacher, but I will take a 18 month break from school to serve a mission beginning this fall. I have just recently received my mission call, and am so excited to serve my Heavenly Father every day!

Why I am a Mormon

I was born a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. It has always been a part of my life but like everyone else, I had to pray to know if it was true. As a teenager, I prayed fervently to know and I rather impatiently sought a large sign that it was true. I realized that I don't need a huge sign like Joseph Smith received. I have always known that the church was true. Every time I participate in the ordinances of the gospel, or go to church I feel a great burning in my heart that tells me it is true. Every principle I read in the scriptures or hear from church leaders gives me joy and makes me want to live a faithful life, devoted to my Heavenly Father. I am so grateful for my Heavenly Father's plan for me. He knows me and he knows every one of us. He knows our weaknesses and our strengths. He gives us trials to make us stronger, and he is there to help us through them. We have a Savior, Jesus Christ, who loved us so much that he was willing to die for us and suffer all our sins so that we can live with him. He gave us a chance to repent when we make mistakes. No one is perfect, and thanks to him we can become perfect if we follow his example. I love Him so very much. He is my best friend, and he can be yours too. I know that this gospel is true. Joseph Smith restored the gospel to the Earth at a time when we needed it most. He translated the Book of Mormon, the most true book on earth. It is full of truths that can touch our lives. I know temple work is so important. We can be with our families forever if we will make ourselves worthy to go to the temple all the time. As I have gotten older and participated in the ordinances there, I have felt such a strong spirit and been able to recognize the love of our Heavenly Father for all of his children. We can also help the dead who didn't have a chance to have the gospel in their lives by doing their work for them. The church is true; I am so blessed to have it in my life.

How I live my faith

Sometimes it can be hard hard to live the gospel when there is so much corruption and evil around us. What I've had to learn to do is stand strong and use my testimony of the Savior as my rock. I put the gospel first in my life, and everything else falls into place. By remembering my covenants with the Lord to always remember Him and have His spirit to be with me, I can feel his love and be an example to others. We have been given tools that we can use in our lives every day to strengthen us and help us become more Christlike. The Book of Mormon is another testament of Jesus Christ, and contains records of ancient prophets in the Americas. Scripture, when studied daily, has been a great aid in my life and every time I read it I learn something new and feel the spirit. We have also been given living prophets in this day to provide us with instruction. By following this instruction and studying their words I have been able to understand what I can do to become a more faithful member of the church. Attending the temple is a fantastic opportunity. I love going and feeling the spirit there, and participating in the work of the dead. Whenever I take the time to go to the temple, I learn something new and have an enlightened mind. I have a renewed desire to live the gospel. Attending Sunday meetings and partaking of the sacrament always makes me feel the same way. I am able to feel refreshed and determined to serve and be faithful.

Are all Mormons required to serve a mission?

Allyson
Many members of the LDS church serve missions, but it is not required. A mission is a chance for church members to further strengthen their testimony and give service to the Lord by being on his errand and teaching the gospel for a period of time. It is recommended by church leaders that male church members at the age of 18 or older serve a 2 year mission. This is a time when young men can serve the Lord and bring others to the gospel. It is a time when they can learn a lot about themselves and their relationship with their Heavenly Father. For young women, a mission is optional if they have a desire and are worthy to serve, beginning at the age of 19. Elderly couples may also serve. Missionary work is voluntary, and is a service to the Lord. Prayer and fasting is huge part of deciding whether missionary service is the right decision for an individual, but great blessings will be received through their service. They will be able to bring joy to so many people. Show more Show less
