Hi I'm Janie Charchenko

I grew up on a farm in Arizona. I have 7 children and 37 grandchildren. I taught special ed for 20 years, and I am a Mormon.

About Me

I was married with two sons (the youngest only 10 days old) when my first husband was killed in a plane crash. Two years later I met a great guy who lost his wife when their baby was 18 months old. On our first date the kids were sitting on the back seat (ages 4, 4, and 2) visiting. The oldest one said, Hey he doesn't have a mom and we don't have a dad, why don't you two get married? We now have 7 children and 37 grandchildren. We were brought together by a series of miracles, and the miracles just keep happening. When our youngest was in middle school I got a scholarship and went back to college. After I graduated I taught special education for 20 years. College was great, but I got my experience for teaching from raising 5 sons and 2 daughters.

Why I am a Mormon

The gospel of Jesus Christ has helped me through difficult times in my life. When my first husband's plane went down, and he was missing for 9 months, I turned to the Lord in prayer and was given peace and comfort that sustained me until the lost plane was found. My second husband and I planned to travel for a year after I retired, and then go on a mission for our church. For some reason, we decided not to wait. It was because of my mission physical that I learned I had breast cancer. I knew to turn to the Lord, and because I did, the whole experience was a miracle. I only missed one week of school. I had my last radiation treatment, retired as a teacher, and got my mission call all on the same day. Our Father in Heaven is a God of MIRACLES. Throughout my life I have found that the answers to ALL of life's problems, and questions, can be found in the teachings of Jesus Christ.

How I live my faith

My husband and I have retired now, and we are serving on a mission, 2,700 miles from home. We will be here for 18 months. We miss our children and grandchildren, but they have been blessed far greater by the Lord than by anything we could have done for them. Life is wonderful. I am grateful to a kind loving Father in Heaven for my many blessings.
