Hi I'm Mitchell N. Riley

I grew up in Utah, I love to go camping and pretty anything that has to deal with football or food and I'm a Mormon

About Me

I grew up in Utah Valley. My parents raised me and my two brothers, one older and one younger, and three younger sisters in the church. I played football and was on the wrestling team all through high school. I went to a year of college learning about criminal justice. When I come home from my mission I plan on serving in the military and starting a family. In high school I enjoyed woodworking class, and going to school sporting events and dances. I love to go camping and hunting and fishing. I am also a huge College football fan! Go BYU!!!

Why I am a Mormon

Well I was raised in the church all my life, my parents are both faithful members of the church, but the reason I have stayed an active member is because I have gained a testimony for myself that it is true. I can remember being baptized by my father when I was 8 years old, be given the priesthood at 12, I can remember having family home evening where my father and mother would teach my brother and sisters and I to read the scriptures and to pray. All these things I did pretty much just going through the motions. As I got older and started to make my own choices I really wondered why we went to church every Sunday and make such a sacrifice in other ways for the church when we could have done other things. In seminary class we were learning about Joseph Smith and the early years of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. We learned about how he had a question about which of the many churches were true. He read in James chapter 1 vs. 5 "if any of you lack wisdom, let him ask god". I knew that god had answered Joseph's prayer, and I knew that if I exercised faith and asked god for myself that he would answer my prayer. I did ask and I did receive an answer. I know that the Book of Mormon is true. I know that Joseph Smith is a prophet called by God. I know that Jesus Christ is my Savior and that this is his everlasting gospel.

How I live my faith

I live my faith by sharing my testimony with those I come in contact with. Right now I am serving a mission in Florida. I live my faith by keeping the commandments the best I can and then truly repenting and changing when i make mistakes. I want to follow Christ's example by having charity for everyone and being a light for thoes around me. I have learned that life is not about being perfect but is more about progression. I continue to live what I believe as I grow in faith and testimony of the restored gospel of Jesus Christ.

What is a “testimony” that Mormons speak of?

Mitchell N. Riley
I believe that a testimony is gained after experimenting or trying a gospel principal. Gaining a testimony takes effort. No one can give another a testimony, the can be influence but they cannot give someone else a testimony. Growing up in the church I leaned on my father and mothers testimony until I was ready and had done my part to get my own testimony. A testimony is the reason why I can say that this is true.
