Hi I'm Chelsea

I live in New Mexico and love green chile. I teach middle school science. I love life! I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I am a Jane of all trades, with many hobbies and interests. I love to swim, bike, and run and have raced in triathlons. I started decorating cakes 7 years ago, but making cakes for weddings, birthdays, and special occasions is really a hobby that pays for itself now. I love to dance and have taken salsa and swing dance classes. A unique thing about me is I was diagnosed with epilepsy with complex-partial seizures when I was 16. These seizures would make me zone out for 30 minutes several times a week until I had a brain surgery which removed the area of the brain which caused the seizures. I've been seizure free for 5 years now. I have played the cello since I was 12 and I love to sing. At work I am a 6th grade science teacher. I've taught middle school math or science since 2006. Since 2009 I have run a STEM (science, technology, engineering, math) after school club with my students. We participate in invention and design competitions across the state. I really enjoy teaching the students in my club. In 2011 I started dating a wonderful gentleman, and 10 months later we were married. He treats me so well! I really feel him also being religious helped him focus on treating his family and me with love. Some of our favorite things to do together are hiking, camping, reading a book aloud, and watching sci-fi or comedy shows like The Office and Fringe.

Why I am a Mormon

I am a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints (Mormon) because I believe the Book of Mormon is the word of God, and it supports the teachings in the Bible. I love the Bible, especially the stories of the Old Testament and the teachings of Jesus in the New Testament. I believe the Book of Mormon was written by prophets of old and was translated by Joseph Smith to make the world a better place today. I believe God listens to my prayers and that he has been by my side in times of need, even when I have been without friends, in poor health, and low on income. I believe Jesus died for my sins so I can be forgiven and live with him and my family in heaven after this life.

How I live my faith

I live my faith in many ways. I attend church every Sunday. After meetings are over, my husband and I take a young woman and a young man to several rest homes in our community to visit with elderly members there. It brings light to the home bound, and it gives our youth an opportunity to serve others. My husband and I also participate in weekly youth night as adult supervisors for activities such as scouting and personal improvement activities. My husband and i support the missionaries in our ward by visiting families interested in the mormon church whenever the missionaries need help. Every night I read scriptures and pray before bed.

How can I know Mormonism is true?

Whenever I have wondered if a teaching of the Mormon church is true, I try to live the teaching, then reflect on how my life has been effected by making the change. I often have seen positive results including better health, peaceful feelings in my heart, improved relationships and friendships, and more happiness in my life. When praying to ask if i should follow a standard or know if Mormonism is true, I have felt warm feeling in my heart, spreading to my limbs, letting me know that God supports the teachings and standards of this church. If you are hesitant to know if one or all of the teachings of this church are true, I encourage you to pray to God to see if you should put the teachings into practice, then try to the best of your abilities to live the standards. See how your life is changed for the better and you will know these teachings are true. Show more Show less
