Hi I'm Carson Stevenson

I am 21 years old and serving a mission for the LDS church

About Me

Im 21 years old and currently on my mission in Oaxaca Mexico. I attended BYU before my mission and will return there to study after my mission. I love sports whether Im playing or watching. Especially golf, basketball, baseball, and football. I grew up in Layton Utah and have been a member of the church my entire life

Why I am a Mormon

Im a mormon because in my life I decided I was going to find out if the religion I had grown up in was true or not. As I read from the book of mormon and lived the gospel more fully I recieved an answer through prayer and I know that this church is true. I know that when I live the gospel I truly am happier and enjoy life so much more. I can see how the gospel blesses my life and because of that Im on a mission

How I live my faith

Well right now Im not only living my faith everyday but teaching it. As a missionary I have decided to stop attending school and pursuing a career in order to share the gospel with others for the next two years of my life. While it is hard to leave your family friends and previous life behind it is worth because I want to share with others something that has changed my life.

What are some things that tell you there is a God?

Carson Stevenson
For me the reason I know there is a God is I see him help me everyday of my life. You just have to look for it. I have seen whether its been at school, doing things with my friends, work, or even sports how God is really there for us. He wants to help us and bless us in every way he can. Sometimes its as simple as something that happens that is good in my day. Sometimes its when something terrible happens and I feel Heavenly Father lift me up through a friend or something simple that happens that makes me smile. These little coincedences that happen I promise they are not coincedences they are evidences of Gods precense and love for us. As a misionary it is easy to see evidence of God any time I open my mouth to speak in spanish. Hevenly Father is there to help me and when I need to say something or testify of the trufulness of the gospel Heavenly Father fills my mouth and it absolutuly blows me away. Thats how I know God Exsits. Through my everyday life and the scriptures I truly see that hes there and he loves me. If you want to see these evidences in your life I encouarge you to pray and ask to see them and then read the scriptures. I promis if you do these things you will see God in your life. I know I have. Are Mormons Christians?

Carson Stevenson
This is an easy question to answer...Yes. The official name of the church is the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Of course we are christian. We believe that Jesus Christ is the son of God and through his Atonement we can obtain eternal life. Everything in this church is centered on Jesus Christ. As a missionary my purpose is to invite others to come unto Christ. Everyday as a missionary I spend my time teaching people about who Christ is and what he means to them in there lives. This church is a Christian church and when you take the time to get to know the church it is easy to see this. Show more Show less

What is the Mormon lifestyle like? How do Mormons live?

Carson Stevenson
The mormon lifestyle is in a lot ways just like any other persons life. We have are families, friends, hobbys, likes and dislikes. However we also know that Heavenly Father has a plan for us and that when we follow his plan we will be happy. We believe in keeping the commandments that heavenly father has given us and we live them everyday in our lives. My life is like a lot people my age. Im 19 years old and am trying to figure out what i want to study and major in at the university I attend, I work at a golf course and I enjoy playing sports and doing stuff with my friends, and relaxing with my family. I love to have fun and am always joking around. However one difference right now in my life is that I have put aside school, dating, and a career to serve the lord on a mission for two years preaching the gospel. However when Im finished with my mission Ill go back to school get a job and go back to living life as a college student studying, working, dating, and just hanging out with my friends. I guess a mormon lifestyle is really like any other persons lifestyle its just coupeled with heavenly fathers plan for us. Really we all just want to be happy and I live my life in a way that I know I ll be happy and I know the best way to do that is by living the gospel of Jesus Christ. Show more Show less

Why do Mormon missionaries proselyte?

Carson Stevenson
Well the simple answer to this question is that when you know about something that is good or true you usually share it with your family and friends, its the same with the gospel. I know that this really is the Church of Jesus Christ and I have seen the blessings that the church has brought into my life and I want to share that with others and so do other members of the church. So we have missionarys like me who preach the gospel for two years so that others can enjoy the same blessings and happiness that we have in our lives. So I guess thats all there is to it the reason that mormon missionaries proselyte is because they know its true and they know it can change peoples lives and bring them more happiness then they can even imagine Show more Show less

In whom should we have faith?

Carson Stevenson
We Should always have faith in God and his son Jesus Christ. At the end of the day orginazations bussinesses, friends, family, and anything else is this world are all imperfect. We are all just regular people and none of us are perfect. We are going to have mistakes and do this wrongs sometimes but we are never alone. No matter how hard life is, no matter what we are going through we always have are heavenly father and savior. There always with us and they love and care about us. When we have faith in them we truly can overcome any trial any hardship and have more happiness in our lives. When we have faith in Christ and Heavenly father we will do everything we can to follow them and when we do this they will bless our lives even more than they already do. In our toughest times the best thing we can do is have faith in God and Christ. They know us perfectly they know what is best for us and when we trust them we will be able to see them guide and shape our lives and help us become the people we need to be Show more Show less

What is the priesthood?

Carson Stevenson
The priesthood is the authority of God. It is absolutly neccasary to have the priesthood to have the church that jesus christ established in his life. When we want to do anything in the church it has to been done with the proper authority this authority is called the priesthood. It is the power to do things in the name of God. Its kind of like a person dressing up to be a policemen and trying to arrest someone. Sure the person looks like a police officer but without the proper authority they have to power. The priesthood is the same thing. When we have it we have the permission and authority from god to do things in the church so that we all can someday return to live with him again. Mormons believe Jesus Christ is their Savior. Why do we need a Savior?

Carson Stevenson
Jesus Christ is our savior and we need a savior because alone we cannot return to live with heavenly father Jesus Christ and our families after this life. All of us have errors and flaws all of us know that we are not perfect and no matter what we do we will make mistakes. Through Jesus Christ and his atonement we can recieve forgiveness for our mistakes in this life and become perfected in him. We have to the things that Christ has asked of us and when we do he promises to forgive us and help us to become perfect like him. When we live the gospel of Jesus Christ we can accept the saviors sacrifice for us and recieve forgiveness for our faults in this life and one day return to live with God Jesus Christ and our families forever. What are Mormon Temples used for?

Carson Stevenson
The Temple is literaly the house of the lord here on the earth. When we go to the temple we are literally entering our father in heavens home and therefore it is a very sacred and special place. The Temple is a place where we can go to feel closer to our heavnly father and our savior. The temple has a special spirit about it that testifies to those that enter that it really is the lords house. In the temple we have the oppurtunity to make covenants with God. These covenants are essential to are eternal salvation and will bless us with more knowledge and power that will help us throughout this life. These covenants also allow us be with our family forwever as a husband wife and children can be sealed together forever. The word sealed refers to the ablitly to be with our family after this life and to be able to live with them forever. This is the greatest blessing we can obtain in this life is the ability to one day return to live with our father in heaven and savior again and live with them and our families forever. That is really the purpose of the temple help us return to the precense of God again after this life. Show more Show less

Who was Joseph Smith?

Carson Stevenson
Joseph Smith Jr. was an ordinary person who the lord called to be a prophet. Joseph Smith grew up in the USA in the 1800's and was called to be the prophet that would restore the gospel Jesus Christ taught to the Earth. Many people throughout the world believe in the prohpets of the Bible. Moses Noah and many other prophets are common names in our homes. Joseph Smith was a prophet just like Noah or Moses. Instead of Building an ark or leading the children of Israel out of Egypt Joseph Smith was Called to restore The Church of Jesus Christ to the earth and Translate the Book of Mormon. I think its important to remember that he was a normal person who god made extraordinary. He had weaknesses and faults but as we can see with all the prophets god uses normal people to do amazing things. Show more Show less

What will the Mormon missionaries talk about when they visit my home?

Carson Stevenson
Well right now im a missionary serving in Oaxaca Mexico and when we come to peoples homes we share a message about Jesus Christ his life and teaching and how we can accept him and follow him in our lives. We explain how the church of jesus christ of latter day saints is the church that Jesus Christ established in his life and restored through the prophet Joseph Smith. We dont obligate people and we dont want to pester people either. We just want to invite others to have the oppurtunity fo know about our message to the world and give them the oppurtunity to accept this message that has changed each of our on lives. Thats what we share as missionary. More then anything we share something that could change the persons life forever and it will be a change for the better. Show more Show less

To what do you attribute the growth of the Church?

Carson Stevenson
I would say the church grows one because it is true and second because of the missionary work that full time missionarys and members do to help others learn about the restored gospel. In the church we know that the key to happiness in this life is living the gospel of jesus christ and because of that we want to share what we know with others. There our literally tens of thousands of full time missionarys across the world and they work helps to bring people into the fold of christ. Also the most growth in the church is always seen when the members help there families to grow in the church and invite there friends to learn more. As a full time missionary i have learned that the members have the ability to change there friends lives by sharing the gospel and that they are able to accomplish more then the full time missionarys ever will be able to do. More then anything when are families grow in the church the church sees real growth as generation after generation more people are touched by the trufulness of the gospel. Show more Show less

Why is family so important to Mormons?

Carson Stevenson
Familias are so important to mormons because we understand the purpose of our families and that are families really can be together forever. We know that our families are what can really bring us true happiness in our lives and will help us to overcome and face the challenges that come in this life. At times it can be easy to take our own families for granted and no family is perfect but as we strive to love and serve those in our families and when we put our families first in our lives we will see that nothing else can bring us the same type of happiness as our families can. God put us in our families to bless us and help us in this life and he also meant for our families to last forever. When we live the gospel of Jesus Christ we truly can live with our families forever through the ordinaces of baptism and ordinances performed in the temples are families can be sealed together forever. Because we understand this our families are so important to us. Show more Show less

What blessings can you receive from reading the Book of Mormon, the Bible, and other scriptures?

Carson Stevenson
When we read the scriptures we are instructed by the words of prophets and apostles. We are learning from the words of God. The scriptures are like instruction manuels for us in our lives. When we read the scriptures our heavenly father can help us in our own lives. The scriptures teach us pricipals that when applied in are own lives can help us to overcome our own challenges and problems. The scriptures are a way that god can communicate with each of us. Probably the greatest blessing ive recieved from reading the scriptures is that it brings me closer to my heavenly father and helps us to feel his love for us. When I read the scriptures I feel closer the the holy ghost and am more easily able to recognize and follow the spirit throughout my day to day life. When I read the scriptures I feel closer to God and what better blessing can we recieve then to feel closer to god. Show more Show less

Why is self-reliance important to Mormons? Why do Mormons talk about emergency preparedness?

Carson Stevenson
Well self reliance is very important for everyone. In the church we believe that we should do all we can to be self relient for a lot of reasons. We should work hard and provide for ouselves, avoid debt and work to have a food storage for emergencys. We do all of this so that we can be free of the stresses of the world with things like large debt and so that we can be more available to help those in need. Its also important to remember that God wont do something for you that you can do for yourself. God is going to always help us but he wants us to do are part as we learn and grow in this life. So more then anything we try to be self relient so that we can bless are own lives with peace of mind and be ready to help meet the others who are in need. Show more Show less
