Hi I'm Deej Hernandez

I'm a proud Texan, I love the outdoors, and I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I was born in Arizona, but I got to Texas as fast as I could. I LOVE Texas, even my small hometown that I longed to get out of, and now I just wish to go back sometimes. I also love sports. I'm an avid baseball fan. Shoot, I started watching hockey and basketball so that football and baseball season would come faster. I attended college in Utah for a few semesters before I came out to New Jersey for a church mission. I have 4 sisters. Imagine that. Luckily I came out first, so growing up with them really gave me a lot of patience and love towards women, and to respect them for who they are. I love my family, they're incredible, and have all had a strong influence to where I am today. My father is not a member of the church, but he has taught me how to become a man, and my loving mother has fine tuned me. The sisters just build my patience, but they are incredible:)

Why I am a Mormon

I suppose the reason I'm still involved with the church is because I found Jesus Christ through the Book of Mormon. I felt the love of his Atonement, or his sacrifice for us, and how through it I could become clean, find peace, and live a happy life, the way he would want me to. I feel that I owe my all to him, and because of this love, the Plan that He and our Father created for us is a perfect plan that brings even more comfort to my soul and mind than anything in this world could buy. As I grew up in high school, I always knew that God was important, but I never really knew he was there. I went to church and I respected the people there, but I had never really prayed or read my scriptures for myself. You could ask me what the difference between the old testament and the new testament was and I wouldn't be able to tell you! But after a difficult trial in my life, I decided to take advice from the classes I attended at church. It wasn't until I repented and prayed and asked if this was true that I received my answer. Questions I asked were, "Could I really be healed and forgiven for all of my mistakes? Do you really love me?" And that's when I received my answer. The guilt had left my life. Forgiveness did come through repentance, and faith in Christ's Atonement. I was loved and a child of God.

How I live my faith

I am currently serving a mission in New Jersey. I feel that this has been the best way that I can live myself, and help others understand the importance of true repentance and forgiveness through God's perfect and merciful plan. During my missionary activities, I look for opportunities to serve others, help them with needs they have, as well as strengthen family relationships, and help them to know for themselves that families can live together forever. The happiest I have been in my life has been serving others, and teaching them that God still loves us, and hasn't forgotten us. I love walking up to strangers and offering to help them learn about God's Plan of Happiness, as well as more about our Savior, Jesus Christ, and his life. The most important thing that I have seen during my service is helping people to feel the importance of Christ's baptism, the example he set, and even more importantly how much more we need to be baptized because of our sins. I love being a missionary.

Do Mormons only help Mormons?

Deej Hernandez
Absolutely not! Everybody is a child of God, regardless of your shape, color, gender or whatever the case may be. We believe that we are all equal, and that we all have a purpose to help each other in this life, so that we may return to live with our Heavenly Father. Show more Show less
