Hi I'm Oakley

I like to wear suits and Tall-Tee's, but not at the same time. I love to help others come unto Christ and I'm a Mormon.

About Me

My first and favorite hobbie is service. I love to serve others, i love to teach, preach, and help. Serving as a full time missionary has been my greatest joy, and in so doing i have grown in my love for God, and have learned what i truly enjoy. Service. Outside of missionary service I really love to strap in and go snowboarding, play drums in a band, laugh, and make others laugh. I also enjoy public speaking. Before serving a full time mission i spent most of my days on the slopes, and most of my nights at band practice. Beside my church responsibilities (which are a joy to me) that is what consumed my time. I never thought i could love anything more than boarding all day and jamming all night, but i feel that i have found the pearl of great price. I can say with firmness that i love sharing the gospel more than i love my old hobbies, and though I'll still ride my snowboard and create music, my life and my purpose will be sharing the gospel of Jesus Christ.

Why I am a Mormon

I am a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints because it is exactly what it claims to be- The Church of Jesus Christ (in these last days). It's not the church of Martin Luther or John Calvin, it's not the church of Moses or Paul, it isn't even the church of Mormon or Joseph Smith, It is The Church of Jesus Christ, and i know it. Who wouldn't want to be a member of a church that Jesus Christ himself has approved, given revelation to, and even commanded to exist. I was, at a time in my life, very lost and very confused. I had in a sense gone out into the world and turned my back on things i was taught in my youth. When i was seventeen i had a wonderful experience. I was angry at life because i had tried to do the things that i thought would make me happy, but eventually only led to feeling empty, angry, and alone. I didn't just sin once or twice but made years of mistakes and justifications that eventually led to a great loss of faith. However, when I was ready to turn around, the Lord was ready to accept me. I felt the cleansing power of the Lord's Atonement, i felt a change that I wanted the whole world to experience. Though i was born into a family of Latter Day Saints, i am in the very sense and meaning of the word a 'Convert'. I know that God is there, I know that Christ has prepared a way for us, and i know that Holy Spirit will confirm my words. If we but follow Christ we will live with God again. I know that Joseph Smith is a revealer of Christ, and that Christ restored the true gospel and true church through him. Even though I have had faith trying experiences that made me question, those experiences have made my faith in Christ stronger. The words of Moroni in Ether 12:6 are true- "you recieve no witness until after the trial of your faith". I know that anyone honestly and willingly seeking for truth may find it just like I did. It takes some changing on our part, we can't try to conform God to our way, we must conform to His.

How I live my faith

I live my faith by serving as a full time missionary. I teach and invite others to come unto Christ by living His teachings. I have taught people of all ages and backgrounds, and I love it. I am currently in a College age group so I work primarily with young single adults. I get to see a similar change take place in others lives that I myself have experienced. My purpose is as follows: "Invite others to come unto Christ by helping them recieve the restored gospel through faith in Jesus Christ and His Atonement, repentance, baptism recieving the gift of the Holy Ghost, and enduring to the end". When my 2 years of full time service are completed i will be released of my calling, go to college, get a job, raise a family and live a wonderful life. Though i will only serve full time as a missionary for two years, my lifetime mission will always be to follow Christ, and invite others to do so also. I will never be released from missionary work, i will only be released from my full time calling. When I get home i will also recieve a part time calling in the church. I am not paid for my work, it is all volunteer, in fact no one is paid in His church. We do what we do because we love God and we love our brothers and sisters (everyone), and for no other reason.

What does Mormonism teach regarding baptism?

Oakley
We believe exactly what the Bible and Book Of Mormon teach- That "unless a man is born of water and of the Spirit, he cannot enter into the kingdom of God" -John 3:5. We don't skew any verses in any scripture to avoid good works, we believe in the Bible as a whole and therefore we must believe in Baptism. We are Baptized by complete immersion to follow the example of Jesus Christ. Jesus Christ is the one being that we know is saved, and what constitutes the salvation of one will surely constitute the salvation of another. We must follow Christ, and try his works to do if we are to have any hope of salvation. Show more Show less
