Hi I'm Shelly

I am a married, mother of four sons and I survived; and I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I was born and raised in Utah. Sounds pretty generic doesn't it? After I finished high school I went to college and graduated in Business Management. But before I finished college I met my future husband who is from Hong Kong. No longer generic, right? We were married in the Salt Lake City LDS Temple and then we moved to California. We had great fun there and met lots of great people. I love the beach and the sunny weather although I always wanted it to snow for Christmas. Four sons and ten years later we moved to a great place with lots of families--Utah. Now my sons are grown and in college and I am back to myself and wondering what I will do with the rest of my life?

Why I am a Mormon

Like many members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latterday Saints I was baptized when I was eight years old but it wasn't until I was about 30 years olds that I really became converted to the gospel of Jesus Christ. I began to wonder if I hadn't been born to parents who were members of the church would I ever have been converted to the gospel of Jesus Christ? Would I know that it was true if someone told me about it? So I started to question myself about my beliefs and I started at the beginning...Is there a God? When I started by looking around at nature in all of its beauty and variety I knew that this earth could not have happened by accident. The rising and setting of the sun, the springing forth of beautiful flowers each spring and their dying in the winter manifested to me that there is a God who created all of this and all of us. My next question to myself was "If there is a God what kind of a God is he?" I knew that if there was a God who created all of nature and this beautiful earth and all of the people who lived here that he must be a loving God and that there must be a purpose for all of us here on earth. If we have a purpose here on earth then it must be important to make good choices. Why would a loving God send us here to earth unless there was something he wanted us to accomplish? These questions all led me back to everything that I had already been taught through the gospel of Jesus Christ and that's why I'm a Mormon.

How I live my faith

I try to live my faith every day. I make an effort to read the holy scriptures because I believe that they are God's words to his children here on earth. One of our church leaders once said in a talk that if we want to speak to God then we should pray but if we want to hear God's voice then we should read the scriptures. I have felt peace and comfort many times while reading the scriptures. I also try to take time to serve in callings that I am asked to do. I have worked with the young children of our ward and with the youth and with the women of our ward. These have been opportunities for me to grow and develop leadership skills and teaching skills and I have learned more about loving and serving others. I also like to go to the temple. It's an important part of my devotion to God. Lastly but by no means of least importance, I try to serve my family every day in our home by keeping our home clean and well kept so that it may be a peaceful place where our family enjoys being together and by helping my children whenever they ask for help. I love them dearly.
