Hi I'm Geri Despain

I am a student and writer. I love to read, blog, and make videos on YouTube. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I enjoy reading and writing. Someday I hope to be an English teacher and a published author. My favorite books are Harry Potter, the Hunger Games, Pride and Predjudice, and The Fault in Our Stars. I also enjoy blogging and making video blogs, and of course watching videos on youtube. My favorite types of videos are smart, educational, funny, and creative. I want to travel around the world and learn lots of different languages. Some languages I've studied are Spanish and French. I love trying new things and meeting new people.

Why I am a Mormon

I was born and raised Mormon. But I'm not a member just out of tradition. I have prayed and asked Heavenly Father to know if this church is true many times. Every time I feel like he tells me "you already know." The biggest challenge I've had in my life has been the death of my mom. She passed away when I was 10 years old. After that, I went to a therapist form the church and she asked me if I had prayed about it. I hadn't but I tried. I asked God to let me know if he would be there for me and help me through this. I remember waiting in my bed but I don't know for how long. But I was really tense and just listening as hard as I could for an answer. Then I heard a little, clear whisper, saying "yes I'm here for you." Ever since then, whenever I have a doubt, I remember this night and the peace I felt. I know that Heavenly Father answers prayers. My faith also gives me hope for my family after this life. I know that I will see my mom again and I will get to live with her forever. My sister passed away at the age of 24, 11 years after my mom. I know that they are together. I know that it is part of God's plan for us to have our families with us for ever. I look forward to the day when I can see and talk to them again. Even now, when I am really quiet and peaceful, I can feel my mom and my sister with me, giving me support and letting me know that they love me.

How I live my faith

I live my faith by being a good person and helping everyone around me. The Savior set the example of service and I do my best to help others the way that he would. I know that I can be his hands. Sometimes all someone needs is a smile and say a few kind words. The best feelings I have ever had have been watching people I know and love gain a testimony of Jesus Christ and be baptized. This is the best because I can feel the Spirit really strongly, testifying to me that they made the right choice. It helps me remember that I am also doing what The Lord wants me to do.
