Hi I'm Jonathan

I'm a regular guy, I love Star Wars, and I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I grew up in Tucson, Arizona and have lived there most of my life. I am the youngest of 8 children and my closest sibling is 12 years older then me. Because of that I have over 30 nephews and nieces and 3 of them are older then me! I love Star Wars. I remember watching it ever since I was a young kid because all my older brothers would watch it. Since then I have enjoyed it and everything related to it. I've read more Star Wars books then anyone else I know. That's another thing I really enjoy, reading. I like fantasy and science-fiction books. My favorite book series are Star Wars and Forgotton Realms. Anyways I went to college for a year at Brigham Young University studying to be a Mechanical Engineer. I hope to specialize in Aerospace. Right now I am serving my mission in the Oregon Eugene Mission which covers most of Southern Oregon. I really enjoy being out on a mission. May the Force be with you!

Why I am a Mormon

I was born a member of the church into a strong mormon family. I have always had a testimony of the truthfulness of the gospel. I love the peace that the gospel and the knowledge of God's plan for us brings into my life. I have on many occasions taken the challenge in Moroni 10:4-5 and prayed if the Book of Mormon is true. I have consistantly gotten the answer that it is. I know that by going to the ultimate source of truth, God, I can find out for myself. And I have. I know that this is God's church here on the earth today.

How I live my faith

I use my faith in my life by avoiding the things in high school and college that are inconsistant with my values. The first time I was ever offered alcohol was when I was in middle school. I didn't even have to answer, my best friend answered before I figured out what was going on. He said, "Jonny doesn't do that, he's a Mormon." Then when I was in high school chemistry I had to listen to other students nearby argue about what happened the night before because they got too drunk to remember. The motto of my friends became that we liked to have fun but we also liked remembering it the next day. Because of that we didn't go to very many parties except those that we aranged ourselves. I'm proud to say that I have never had alcohol or drugs and I very much plan to keep it that way.

Does The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints endorse political parties?

Jonathan
No the church doesn't endorse any political party or canidate. It is the decision of each and every church member to decide which party/canidate they believe will best serve thier values and interests. That is the individual's, not the church's, responsibility. Show more Show less

How can I know Mormonism is true?

Jonathan
I've come to know that this is true through study and prayer. You can find out the same way. Simply read the Book of Mormon, thinking and praying about it's message of about Jesus Christ and what it means for your life. As you do this the scriptures, both Bible and Book of Mormon, testify that you will recieve and answer through the Holy Spirit of God (see Matthew 7:7-8, Matthew 21:22, James 1:5, Enos 1:12, Moroni 10:4-5.) I know that God does answer our prayers when we ask in faith. I have felt the power of the Holy Spirit testify to my heart that this is true through the feelings described in Galatians 5:22. And I know that you can too. Show more Show less

Why do Mormon missionaries proselyte?

Jonathan
Having served as a missionary for the church I can tell you why I served. When I first started on my mission I did it because I felt that that was what God would want me to do. I had read in the scriptures many examples of missionaries like Stephen, Paul, Ammon and Alma. I wanted to be a part of that. Then as my mission continued I saw how the gospel changed peoples lives and that became the focus of my mission. I know that Christ's Church and Gospel will bless people's lives and I want to share it! Show more Show less
