Hi I'm Tom Rhoades

I was born in the back seat of a car on the way to the hospital. My grandma was driving 80. I'm glad to be here and I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I am a husband to the best person who has come into my life, a father to 7 children, and a grandfather to 8 little girls.  Most of them live close by so we have lots of time to spend together. We love it! My family means everything to me. I've worked in the excavation business for 40 years, starting my own company about 15 years ago. It has been a roller coaster ride. I grew up on a farm. You can take the boy off the farm, but you can't take the farm out of the boy. We raised sheep and cattle. In my married life we had a small farm and some of our children were involved in 4-H and FFA. We enjoyed working together on their projects. Recently I have started growing a vegetable garden again. I have enjoyed being outdoors and active all my life. We really enjoy the fruits of of our labors.

Why I am a Mormon

I was born and raised in the Mormon church. My ancestors joined the church and came west with the pioneers. I'm a mormon because I know Joseph Smith was a prophet of God. I know he saw Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ. I know the Book of Mormon is true. The Spirit bears testimony of this to me continually. The church strengthens the family unit and gives us direction for our family. I love that it puts such value on the family. I love the gospel and serving others. It is not always easy to live the gospel of Jesus Christ with the world pulling you in all different directions, but when you know you resist temptations and endure. I wouldn't want to go through life without the blessings I have received because of the church in my life.

How I live my faith

I have served in leadership positions in the church for many years. I have worked with youth and with adults. It is great to serve wherever the Lord asks. I have enjoyed going on scout camps and working with the youth to help them become responsible adults. I have made many friends through visiting them in their homes. I try hard to be a good example and to tell myself NO when the noise and distractions of the world begin to pull me away from the principles I have been taught.
