Hi I'm Mike Nelson

I overcame a Traumatic Brain Injury. The pain, trials, and afflictions brought me closer to Jesus Christ, and I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I am 22 years old. Raised as a member of the LDS Church, but didn't fully realize the impact it had on my life until I got back from college in New York. I picked up lacrosse at 7 years old. I made a personal goal when I first started to do anything I had to, to be able to play lacrosse in college. Through hard work and determination got a scholarship to play in New York, I went out and did very well as a starting attackman. After this year of college I went back to Utah to figure out my next step in life. After listening to my body I was informed that my life was going to go in a different direction than I was planning on. It was then I found out that I had a Traumatic Brain Injury, Post Concussive Syndrome, and that each day I would painfully struggle to remember who I was or what I was doing. It came to a point where I could either decide to give up and stop trying to live a good life, or I could commit my life to God and make the most of it no matter what physical or emotional hurdle was placed in my life. Until this time I never truly realized how much the Lord had blessed me throughout my entire life. I soon promised God I would commit to Him and bringing others unto Him and do a better job of recognizing His hand in my life and to make the most of my life. A few weeks later I woke up feeling like a completely different person, spiritually and physically, I no longer suffer from any negative symptoms and I know that this wasn't done through my own strength.

Why I am a Mormon

First and foremost, I am a Mormon and proud to be because I have found out for myself that this is the truth. I have asked God Himself, and I know He has answered me and continues to show me the answer through the Spirit. I am a Mormon because the Book of Mormon has drawn me closer to Jesus Christ, and I have also found out for myself the truth of it by reading it. I am a Mormon because even though at times I have failed to show how grateful I am for my Heavenly Father (God), He still continued and constantly continues to bless me in so many ways. He blesses me with peace and comfort, health and strength. And is always there for me. I know with all my heart, ALL I have is because of Him. I also know that being a Mormon has made me the man I am today, and that has given me the strength to keep on moving forward with faith. I am a Mormon because through the resources and leaders of the Church, and through personal communication with my Heavenly Father I have had all of my, questions, concerns, or burdens resolved, or lightened. I know that through Faith in Jesus Christ anyone can feel the same way about their situation no matter what you are going through. The Atonement is real, Jesus Christ is our Savior and suffered for each one of us, that alone gives me strength and understanding to continue to move forward even when times are difficult or challenging.

How I live my faith

I live my faith by believing, trusting, loving, and following the example of Jesus Christ the best I possibly can. I also strive to live the Laws and Commandments given to us by God (Our Heavenly Father). I do my best to live my faith by working and submitting myself to the Lord day by day. I do my best to live my faith by inviting others to come unto Christ, and helping or uplifting them in any way I possibly can, in service and in love. I recently returned from serving a mission for the church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, in the New Hampshire Manchester Mission. Where I dedicated my life in service to the Lord, searching for those who needed God in their lives. I loved every minute of my mission, the struggles, the pain, the disappointment, the joy, the happiness, the miracles. I am blessed and grateful for the opportunity I had to serve a mission. I will continue to move forward in Faith to find those who want to draw closer to Christ, to strengthen themselves, their friends, and their families! These are just a few of the ways I try to live my Faith and show thanks for all that I am blessed with.
