Hi I'm Hayley Phillips

I'm a writer and film maker from Sydney, Australia. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I have a variety of interests. I'm a big geek so anything relating to Star Wars, Star Trek, Dr. Who, Lord of the Rings and that sort of thing I know and love. My mind races with stories and ideas which is why I have a fond obsession with movies and television. In high school I started learning Japanese and fell in love with the people and culture. I like arts, crafts and sewing things. Anything creative and I'm generally fond of it.

Why I am a Mormon

I became a member of the church when I was nine years old. My stepfather brought my family into the gospel. My father and his family are not member though...not yet. I was brought up Anglican but whenever I went to church I had questions that couldn't be answered about the Bible. When I started going to church there was this different feeling about everything they did there. I read the book of mormon and I prayed about it. The confirmation I got let me know this church was true.

How I live my faith

I live my faith in everything that I do. Every morning I wake up at 6am to pray and read the scriptures because it centres my day. I go to church every Sunday and teach the Book of Mormon in Sunday school to the 16-17yr olds. Every week preparing that lesson is an enjoyment because it strengthens my testimony and I do my best to inspire my students to do the same. I've had callings in the church as the Assistant Visiting Teaching Leader, Faith in God Leader, and 2nd Counsellor in the Primary Presidency.

To what do you attribute the growth of the Church?

Hayley Phillips
As a missionary I get to walk around and talk with everyone. They share with my companion and I about how they feel the world is a lot harder for families. Life is harder to keep up with because financial hardship means both parents have to be out in the workforce to survive. As a result children try to live their own lives and don't have the proper guidance and support. Parents are finding it harder to cope and keep family relationships strong. People love how in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints we focus on the family. We center our families on Jesus Christ and his teachings. All the church programs like Relief Society, Priesthood, Primary, Youth and Young Adult programs encourage the strengthening of relationships in the family. In church we sit together in our families. Every week we hold a Family Home Evening where we share a gospel related lesson and spend time doing wholesome activities with the family. Through the doctrines of Jesus Christ's gospel children feel free to be honest with their parents, are more willing to ask for advice and feel love and support even when they make mistakes. Our Heavenly Father knows that the family is the most important unit and needs to be placed as a priority in our lives. Through this we can live happier lives and be blessed. People need this in their lives and I know these values are important to the growth of the church, because they recognize that this is Jesus Christs true church upon the Earth. Show more Show less
