Hi I'm John Cranor

I'm a Mormon.I am a74year old retired geologist who has been a member of the Church for some 50 plus years and know it to be true.

About Me

Hobbies, past and present: photography, diving, living history (mountain man times), Fencing, astronomy, geneology, building black powder guns. I served in the navy from 1955 to 1959. I am a high school drop out with an advanced degree in geology from BYU in 1973, also I have dyslexia. I enjoy good old music and old movies. I am learning digital photography and "playing" with my computer. I have three children, two boys and a girl, all have families of their own. My oldest son lives in Spain, my dagthter and family (two daughters) lives in Oregon and my youngest son is in Idaho.

Why I am a Mormon

When I was in grade school and high school, in Missouri, several of my class mates were members of the RLDS Church and I spent som time with them in their church activites, but knew nothing of it or its beliefs. When I joined the navy in 1955 and went off to basic training in San Diego, Calif., we were required to attend some church servies each Sunday. Not having a preferece but remembering my friends and their church I looked for it but was unsucessful though I did see other sailors standing with the plackard for the LDS Church. Thinking that three out of four letters was not bad so I fell in with them. I knew nothing of the teachings then, but became more involved with the church later in my enlistment to the point that I joined in 1958. I soon developed a testimony of the Church, the Gospel of Jesus Christ and the restoration of the gospel through the efforts of the prophet Joseph Smith.

How I live my faith

I have been a member of the Church for about 55 years and during that time have held several leadership positions. I currently work in the Birmingham Alabama Temple as well as holding a leadership possition among the men of the church in Jasper, Alabama. I enjoy doing genelogical work on my family line and reading books by church authors. I would like to add that I have found the teachings of the church about Christ and his gospel to be totally true. I have no reservations regarding this matter. Over the years I have looked at the teaching of the church very critically to know for a surity that the church and its teaching are correct, and it is lead by a prophet of the Lord.
