Hi I'm Elijah Donnelly

I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I'm a recent high school graduate and a grocery store bag boy. I enjoy playing ultimate Frisbee with my friends and any other form of physical activity. I also like cooking, playing chess, and watching movies.

Why I am a Mormon

I was born and raised in different parts of the Bible belt my whole life. There was plenty of Christian churches to choose between. My family particularly liked the Methodists and the Baptists. I preferred worshiping in my bed on Sundays. One day my mother and her friend were over at our house talking. My mother shared with her friend what she thought were her beliefs only, but as it turns out they shared those beliefs. Her friend invited her to learn more from some missionaries. My mom in turn invited me to go with her. For whatever reason I wanted to go. Religion wasn't something I was interested in until I met the missionaries from the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. I found the lessons I was being taught lingered in my mind throughout the week. I found myself asking "What if I became a Mormon?" I decided to find out for myself if this was something I should pursue. I remembered what Joseph Smith did, how he prayed out loud in a quiet area. I loved that man, so I decided to do what I did. I knelt in prayer in my room. This was the first time I had prayed and wanted to know something, it was also the first time I prayed out loud. I remember asking if The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints was the true church. I remember my distinct answer; it came in my own voice, saying "You know it's true." Since then I've dedicated my life to that answer.

How I live my faith

I'll be serving a two year mission in Argentina, where I'll be focusing on serving the Lord. I'm giving up school, work, and a social life to pursue what I believe God wants me to do. I'm thankful for this opportunity to share the gospel of Jesus Christ, and I look forward to the blessings that it will bring.

What is being a Mormon like?

Elijah Donnelly
Being a Mormon is like constantly trying to improve an a project, car, paper, etc,. Our main goal here on Earth is to return with our Heavenly Father. Christ commanded us to "be ye therefore perfect" (Matthew 5:48), and we know that "no unclean thing can dwell with God" (1 Nephi 10:21). I'm not perfect, and unfortunately I won't be for a long time. Thankfully, Heavenly Father knew I wouldn't be, and he knew others wouldn't be; so, he provided a way back to Him. That is, through Christ's atonement. Each and every day we can draw closer to God by daily scripture study, prayer, faith, and repentence. We are fortunate enough to live in a time where we don't have to look far for comfort in times of trouble and peril, we can simply open up our scriptures or get down on our knees. There isn't a day that goes by that I don't need to improve upon in some way, but there is never a time where I feel I can't or am not able to improve. I am grateful for Christ's atonement, and I hope I can share his love and happiness with others, so they too, can feel the joy that I feel as being a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of latter-day Saints.
