Hi I'm Derek Gerratt

I grew up in Southern Idaho. I love to play sports, lift weights, eat potatoes, and I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I grew up in Southern Idaho. My dad is a dairy farmer, and as such, taught me the importance of working hard. I loved working on the farm, especially driving the loader!! I was very involved in sports as I grew up. I started wrestling when I was in 1st grade and I have been all over the nation to participate in tournaments. So far, I have gone to one year of college studying for a degree in Business Agriculture. I am currently serving a two year mission in the Pittsburgh Pennsylvania mission, and I love it.

Why I am a Mormon

I am a Mormon mainly because I have come to know for myself, by experience, that Jesus Christ is my Savior. I also know that the fulness of the gospel was restored through the prophet Joseph Smith, which allows us to partake of the fullness of the atonement. I feel like I have always known that God is my loving Heavenly Father. There were so many evidences of God's love while I was growing up- just the beautiful scenery of Southern Idaho was enough to convince me of that. It took time and experience to know that Joseph Smith was a prophet. I credit my testimony of the restoration of the gospel to the reading of The Book of Mormon. I love the pages of that book. As I read, prayed, and applied the teachings of The Book of Mormon I knew that Joseph Smith was and is a true prophet. Now, because of the testimony that I have of the restoration, I have the awesome privilege of sharing it with others.

How I live my faith

Because I know that the gospel is true i feel like I am expected to live a certain way. I feel like I have been given much, so i too must give! I try to live my life in such a way that others will see how happy the gospel has made me, and they will want to know why. Too further this desire, I am currently serving a mission to share this great news. There is no better feeling than serving those around you, especially by helping them gain their personal testimony of the fulness of the gospel.

How can I know Mormonism is true?

Derek Gerratt
The only way to know of truth is by the Holy Ghost. Just as it is with us gaining a testimony of the reality of our Savior by the Holy Ghost (1Corinthians 12:3), we must do the same with His restored church. The Holy Bible teaches us that when we know the truth we will be set free (John 8:32). The way to know truth is by doing the will of the Father (John 7:17), and He has asked to sincerely pray to him to find out for ourselves if the church is true. When we have truly humbled ourselves the Holy Ghost will bear testimony to us that the things we have been learning our true. The Lord will answer our prayer in His own time, but He will answer. As we continue to do His will and show that we have a strong desire to know, The Lord will give us the answer we are searching for. As we strive to live pure lives we allow the Holy Ghost to enter into our hearts. The Holy Ghost confirms truth to everyone in different ways. For me, I simply have feelings of peace, love, comfort, and true joy. I know as we ask our Heavenly Father in sincere pray, continue to show a strong desire, and maintain a pure life, God will answer our question through the Holy Ghost. Show more Show less
