Hi I'm Katelynn Brooke

I plan epic parties, I’m a closet bookworm, I love laughing and learning (preferably at the same time), and I’m a Mormon.

About Me

I am 21 years old and a physiology and developmental biology major at BYU. I’m the youngest of 6 kids and because all my siblings are married and have children of their own, I say my immediate family has 31 people (and counting)! We have Greek and Italian ancestry and we are always eating and always loud! I would easily call myself a people person! I LOVE planning parties or other large activities. I love spending time with my family, making new friends, and learning more about old friends. I love being surrounded by those I love and pride myself on putting together activities that bring people together; from study groups to pool parties, I feel like life needs to be epic! The only time I don’t care to be with others is when I’ve got a good book in my hands. I LOVE to read! I often stay up all night reading a good book. Like some people crave chocolate, I crave good books. I love to read for fun as well as to learn! Basically I just love life!

Why I am a Mormon

I was blessed to be born into a home where my parents were already members of this church. They taught me the truths of this gospel before I was even able to talk. As I grew up I had a desire to gain a knowledge and a personal testimony of this gospel’s truthfulness. I remember being young and staying up late reading the Book of Mormon and having a burning feeling in my heart. I would sit in my room and say to myself, “This is AMAZING! I want to share this with everyone I know!” I knew then and have never doubted since that this is God’s true church. Daily I receive the same feeling and conformations as I continue to pray and read my scriptures. I also receive blessings too numerous to count as I try my best to live the standards and commandments that God has promised will bring joy and happiness. I know through the Book of Mormon, all of life’s questions can receive an answer. I know what Moroni says is true, through reading the Book of Mormon, EVERYONE can know by the power of the Holy Spirit that the Book of Mormon is true, Jesus is the Christ, Joseph Smith was a prophet, and this church is God’s only true and living church upon the face of the earth.

How I live my faith

Right now I’m living my faith by serving a full time mission for our church in Taiwan. Although we weekly participate in activities, like teaching a free English class, this mission is not just 18 months of community service. Our church is truly God’s restored gospel and missionary work is proof of that! Each day I am blessed to be in Taiwan, biking on the streets, and telling EVERYONE I meet about this amazing message—in Chinese! I am blessed with the ability to speak freely a language that 9 months ago, I had never even studied! It is a wonderful and indescribable feeling to be part of a miracle like missionary work! Daily I try harder to become more like Jesus Christ through this service, praying, and studying the scriptures. Even before I was a missionary, I was trying to emulate Jesus Christ’s example. I am not perfect, but I know through Jesus Christ’s Atonement, every day I can become better than I was the day before. I live my faith by always trying to improve. This brings me joy. I also live my faith by sharing this joy with everyone I meet.
