Hi I'm Dana Smith

I love to perform with my acro-balance troupe and I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I am a mother of a very active little boy. I get to stay home with him during the day and watch two other children, that are not mine, throughout the week as well. I am married to a medical student, which makes life hard, but fun too. We met when were 6 years old; and I knew from the moment I met him, he was the one I was going to marry. I have been a dancer pretty much my whole life, but I used to also be involved in cheerleading, show choir, color guard, Kung Fu, and many other things. I am currently still involved in an acro-balance troupe that my gymnastics coach (and great friend) and I created about ten years ago. We do mostly local performances, but are looking to branch out. I graduated from college in Iowa in 2006 with a major in Political Science, but I am not currently working in this field.

Why I am a Mormon

I love being a Mormon! I haven't always been this way, but I now know that it is God's church on earth. I grew up in the church, but stopped going when I was in high school. While in college, my life was not going the way I wanted it to; so, I took a step back and really thought about what I wanted out of this life. That is when I started reading the Book of Mormon for the first time in my life. As I was reading, I started praying about what I needed to do. That's when I realized I needed to make some major changes in my life and start going back to church. I started going to a branch for young single adults; and, although it was small, I formed some of my greatest life friendships there. I gained my testimony on my own, but the people around me really helped strengthen it even more. I know that our Heavenly Father (God) loves us so much and would do anything to have us with us again. This is why he sent Jesus to help us get back to him. I know that Joseph Smith was able to translate The Book of Mormon for us to have today, not to replace anything, but just as another testament that Jesus Christ lived and is here for us today. The prophet, Thomas Monson, loves each of us and is able to receive knowledge for all of us today. There were prophets in the past to guide people and I know God would not leave us alone today, he loves each and everyone of us too much to do that. This church is the church that Christ intended for us to have on earth and I am so glad to be a part of it.

How I live my faith

I try to live my faith in my actions and be a friend to all those around me. I have worked with the young ladies at church for the past 3 years now doing various things, but I am currently the Girl's Camp director for our ward. I love being with them, they bring such a light to my life and I think they may teach me more than I teach them. Every month I get the opportunity to visit two members and really get to know them. I have gained such a great friendship through this and I look forward to getting to sit down and talk to them every month. I love to read the scriptures to my son, even though he doesn't really get a lot out of them right now. It makes me so happy that we pray enough that he can say prayers, with our help, already. They may be simple, but they are the best ones. We hold a family night (Family Home Evening) every Monday night, which is a great way to be together as a family and learn more about the gospel. Being a Mormon is more than just saying you believe, it is a way of life that, to some, may seem "hard" or "limiting;" but, the reality is I get more out of life and I am able to have a deeper relationship with my family here on earth and in heaven.
