Hi I'm Sol

I am from a small town called Nyssa and right now I am in college. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I am college student for the moment. The things that I love to do is hearing music and I think it is because my family is always hearing some type of music. If you come to my house you will see that each family member hearing music. It can very from cumbia, to hip hop. I have mostly all my life lived around music like most other latinos. This is something very huge part of my culture. Apart from that I have a small sister and she has cerebral palsy this has been a very big challenge because she is not able to walk. During one time my family I were not able to hear music because she felt that she could not dance like the rest of us. I came up with the idea of having her dance by just crawling (because she can sort of crawl). This was when we were able to have music back in our homes again. This help me learned that the impossible can be possible.

Why I am a Mormon

My mother would always take me to different churches to learn of their religion. When I was in third grade there was a TA. She looked at me and saw the resemblance with my mother and asked me if my mom was my mother. After that she started to visit us at my home and during that time asked me if we wanted to go to church with her. For some strange reason I wanted to go and I left with her to the church. As we got there she took me to sit by a piano and told me she played the piano for the hymns. It was such an amazing thing to just sit and hear her play the piano and from there on I would go every week with her to this church. All of a sudden I just stopped going with her. Years later my mother got pregnant and I was in the 6th grade when my brother was born. He was born with Down syndrome. A week passed from when my brother was born and I woke up at three in the morning hearing a bunch of running and yelling. I did not know what was going on, and all I did was stand by the door and looked through the crack and hear all these voices and people around someone my brother's crib. As they left with my brother I came out and asked my mother what was happening and she told me my brother was dying. She left and my neighbor came and asked me what was wrong and if there was anything she could help with. Later that morning my mother called saying he was dead. About two weeks later the missionaries come and my father decides to let them in and teach us but we had to go to Mexico to bury him over there since it was cheaper. We came back and sister missionaries came and one my mom called the smile of gold since she came with a big smile. We started to hear them and we went to church. I started to recognize the music and the sacrament and seen that I had been here once before. Months later my mother decided to get baptized and that is when I saw my opportunity to get baptized also and found out that our neighbor had sent the missionaries.

How I live my faith

Today I still live within the gospel. I have been able to learn a lot of the church and the scriptures. They have helped me be the person I am today and keep on persuading to study for a career. Living in the gospel is something that I do not want to lose.
