Hi I'm Jared Nygren

I'm a Mormon.

About Me

My name is Jared I am 19 years old. I just finished my first semester of college at BYU Idaho. My dad is a business professor at the University. I enjoy playing football, basketball, tennis, and snowboarding in the winter. I love being with family and friends, and would not be the same without them. They are all a great influence on me and have helped me to become who I am today. Right now in my life I am preparing to serve a two year mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter day saints. I am excited to represent Jesus Christ and preach his gospel to the people in Ohio.

Why I am a Mormon

I was raised in the church my entire life. It has brought a lot of happiness to me, and has taught me true principles and values. It wasn't until I was older that I began to gain a testimony of my own. As I have begun to prepare for my mission I have had a lot of different ideas running through my mind. I often would find myself confused not knowing whether going on a mission was the right choice for me. I sometimes felt trapped. It is so engrained in the Mormon culture for boys to serve a mission that if you don’t others seems to question if something is wrong with you. It wasn’t that I didn’t want to go on a mission I simply did not want to follow the crowd blindly. I wanted to know whether or not my beliefs were correct. I desperately needed an answer, and who better to turn to then Christ. I started reading the book of Mormon every day. I wouldn’t let a day slip by without reading at least 10 pages eventually I finished the book in two months by far my fastest read. It was a different book. It had never flowed so perfectly. The book touched my heart and gave me such a great feeling as I read the powerful account written by the ancient American prophets. There were so many valiant men whose purpose was to do good continually. I committed myself to follow Alma when he said, “If ye have but a desire to know…” I knew I had weak faith, but I had a desire. His words were of so much comfort to me. I had a desire and I knew that it could grow to faith and with that I could gain an unwavering testimony. After reading the Book of Mormon I found that the Atonement was central to everything. I knew it was important, but I didn’t realize it was everything. From that moment on I knew that I wanted to be a true disciple of Christ, and that is why I am a Mormon.

How I live my faith

I live my faith by diligently going to church every week, attending church activities, visiting the temple as often as I can, keeping the commandments to the best of my ability, reading my scriptures and saying prayers. It may seem like it is a lot, but for me it is everything. I want to be the best I can be and I can only become that by following Christs example.
