Hi I'm Devin

I love sports, my family and my religion. I served a mission in Taipei Taiwan. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I was born in Tokyo Japan. I spent most of my growing up years in Utah. However, I also spent time living in Shanghai, China and Melbourne, Australia. I love sports. I played football, basketball and tennis in high school. I also enjoy wakeboarding and snowboarding. I served a two year mission for the Church in Taipei Taiwan where I learned "after all is said, the greatest and most important duty is to preach the gospel" (Joseph Smith).

Why I am a Mormon

I have been a Mormon my whole life. My family has always been very active. I even had ancestors that crossed the plains and settled in Utah due to religious persecution. From a very young age, I have been taught about Jesus Christ and His gospel. However, I choose to be a member of this church because the spirit has testified to me that what I have been taught is true. When I was about 14 years old, I attended a week long activity with other church members around where I lived (which was in Melbourne, Australia at the time). This activity was called "trek". We walked and pushed handcarts the entire week to experience what the pioneers experienced when coming to Utah. Towards the end of the week, after reaching our destination for the day, we had some time to ourselves to ponder and pray. I found a place to sit near a river. For a few weeks prior to this time, I had been praying to know if Joseph Smith was a true prophet and that he did what he said he did and saw what he said he saw. However, I had not received a definite answer. While sitting next to the river, I asked God once again. An incredible feeling came over me and tears started to flow down my face as I knew that he was in fact a prophet of God. A scripture came to my mind, "by the power of the Holy Ghost, ye may know the truth of all things" (Moroni 10:6). The feeling I had is hard to describe, but I just knew that he was in fact a prophet. Since then I have felt the Spirit many times. Living the gospel brings peace and happiness to my life that I couldn't live without it. Serving a mission to Taiwan was the best decision I have ever made. Christ has said that as we "lose ourselves, we will find our self". I learned that becoming like Christ is a pattern of turning outside ourselves when others would turn inward. I learned that the doctrine of Christ - Faith in Him, repentance, baptism, receiving the gift of the Holy Ghost and enduring to the end is the only way back to our loving Heavenly Father.

How I live my faith

I attend church every Sunday. I strive to receive personal revelation and guidance through studying the words of ancient and modern day prophets. I served a two year service mission to Taiwan. I seek to follow the Savior's example in thought, word and deed.
