Hi I'm Alysia

I'm an admirer of friendships, faith, knowledge, and nature. I'm a mother and wife. I'm a reader and a seeker. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I've learned to love the world I live in. I find faith in the beauty of nature. I enjoy learning from people, their cultures, and their history. I love to read, take pictures, visit with friends, and explore. Some of my favorite adventures are: hiking the Grand Canyon, hunting for wildflowers in Death Valley, learning to appreciate the sandy beaches of Southern California, hiking the Wasatch Front mountains, watching a rocket take off for the moon from Cape Canaveral, walking the hills of San Fransisco, driving across the USA (a few times.) meeting tourists from around the world, the laughter that only raising children can provide, and, of course, diving into the adventure of whatever book I'm reading. I suppose I am ultimately about learning about and from the things around me, seeing God's hand in those things, and, since I added children to my family, my adventures are also about sharing some of that with them.

Why I am a Mormon

I am a Mormon because I've learned and felt that embracing the teachings of my Savior in my life, and in striving to live them the way the LDS church teaches, ultimately makes me happy, and a better person. I grew up being taught the stories of Jesus, and being taught to follow the teachings of the latter day prophets. When I was a young teenager I went through some typical teenage challenges and discovered solace and truth in the things I'd been taught as a little girl that were continuing to be reinforced. Since then I've tried to continue learning about my Father in Heaven and his love me for me. I've learned to rely on his love. The teachings of the Mormon church, and my worship within it continue to enlighten my mind, strengthen my spirit in its weakness, and lift my soul toward higher things.

How I live my faith

I try to live my faith by continuing to learn about Heavenly Father's love for us, and about his plan for our happiness. I am trying to help my children feel his love also, and help them to follow His teachings. I try to find examples from the life of Jesus Christ and his disciples to help my family and myself be more Christlike people. As I learn about different people and events in history, what made them who they are, what happened to them, and how they behaved... I try to glean from those things treasures that will help my family and I be better people. I especially enjoy the opportunities being a parent has provided me to be able to see the things I was taught as a child from new eyes and explain them to my children. When I answer their questions it reaffirms my own faith and gratitude for the teachings of my Savior and for the love of my Father in Heaven. Life isn't always easy, I'm not perfect,... but I find comfort in the words Jesus left with his disciples, that he would "not leave (them) comfortless." I know he does not leave me comfortless, and I try to rely on the promised 'comforter" He promised to teach me, comfort me, and to help me be more like my Savior, and more like my Father in Heaven.
