Hi I'm Laynie

I help people to learn how to communication with Deaf people and I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I was born deaf and grew up using sign language as my primary communication method at school and home. During my college years, I was offered a job teaching an American Sign Language class and loved it. Now I have been teaching American Sign Language for more than 11 years! I served my mission in Olathe, KS and South New York in the Deaf Program. I love reading children's books. I love to ski (even though I stink at it), learning how to garden, and learning how to make the house look pretty. Also my new hobby is to do indexing and learn how to do family history.

Why I am a Mormon

When I was in high school, my siblings had their testimonies of the Book of Mormon. Reading the Book of Mormon was difficult for me since English was my second language. One day I decided to find out the truth for myself. I kneeled to pray and ask if the Book of Mormon was true. After a few minutes, nothing happened. But I didn't give up easily, so I continued kneeling and listening carefully and patiently. To my surprise, a quiet voice spoke a sentence saying that I knew what the answer was. To my delight, I did knew it was true. My testimony grew strong. Since my prayer, I have been trying to read and understand the Book of Mormon. Somehow I felt the Book of Mormon starting to grow clearer to me. I knew those words were God's words. He helped me to understand His words. Again, my testimony has grown stronger from this.

How I live my faith

I love teaching people American Sign Language in my ward and making some new friends through this activity. Now I am a family history consultant. I am looking forward to learning how to find my mother's side of the family using the family history website. So I can share with others how to do their family history as well! Family history can be difficult but can be rewarding after finding people. It is almost like relief when I found people who were related to my family. It is like you have lost your family until somebody found you. It is a big celebration to be together again. Special feelings. Families can be together forever through doing this family history. That is why I am trying to help others to find their families.
