Hi I'm Barney

I am a husband, father and grandfather. I love to golf, read, travel and teach! I'm a Mormon.

About Me

As a youth I loved to bowl & would clean the local bowling alley so I could bowl for free. At one time I toyed with the idea of becoming a professional bowler. Growing up my parents did not attend church but I always sought out a church wherever we lived. Through some family friends I was introduced to the LDS Church & at that time of my life, reasoned that if the Church were not true, what could I lose, I would have lived a good life & if it were true, I was that much further ahead. At the age of 18, I gained a testimony of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints for myself. I saw my sweetheart at the LDS Church when I was 15 years old & went home & told my Mom that I had seen the girl I was going to marry. When I was 19 & she had just turned 18, we married in the Oakland Temple, lived in Germany while I served in the military, then Kansas then back to our home state. We had 3 daughters & 1son plus have 8 grandchildren (two of which have gone to their heavenly home along with our oldest daughter). But I know that they LIVE and look forward to the time when we will once again be reunited as a family. Families can be together forever! I have owned 4 businesses, 29 yrs total & have tackled challenges that come from owning ones own business. In the past I have worked as a retail clerk, I came out of the US Army as a 1st Lieutenant, have worked in a bank & am presently in the process of being hired on with the US Post Office. Life throws us unexpected challenges.

Why I am a Mormon

I am grateful: For the restoration of the Gospel in these the latter-days and for the prophet Joseph Smith - For the sacrifices of men and women who gave their lives that I and all of my posterity can enjoy the blessings of the Gospel - For the opportunities I have to be an instrument in the hands of the Lord in this, the last dispensation of time - For family and friends and the common threads that bind us together as Saints. I know from personal experience that: The Lord helps those who help themselves - Joseph Smith was, and is, a Prophet of God, that God lives and Jesus is the Christ - Our lives are blessed and changed for the good when we serve God with all our might, mind and strength - The veil of Heaven is very thin and Temple work is essential for our exaltation - The Book of Mormon is true and the Prophets who wrote it walked and talked with God - The power of the Priesthood is real physical power which can heal the sick and afflicted - When the endowments and covenants of the Temple are honored and kept sacred, we are endowed with power that can help us to overcome all things - Ministering Angels are able to intervene in our lives for our blessings when we are in tune with the Spirit of the Lord - The Lord speaks to us through living Prophets and His chosen servants every day. I Look Forward to: The rise of the Lord's Kingdom in these latter-days, the gathering of Israel - Peace on earth and brotherly and sisterly love worldwide - My posterity living and growing in the true Gospel of Jesus Christ - Seeing my children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren happily married in the Holy Temple of the Lord. I pray that I may be a living example of the joy and happiness that comes from living and practicing gospel principles as taught by living Prophets and Apostles of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. The one and only true church upon the face of the earth. I testify and witness before God that I know this to be an eternal truth!

How I live my faith

In the LDS Church I have been a volunteer manager overseeing the recruitment of volunteers for “The Pear Farm” in Oregon. I have mentored and taught up to 20 youth at a time with a set curriculum for up to 15 years or more. I have been a Family Relation's Instructor instructing up to 50 couples in the community regarding marriage and family relationships. I have been a Scoutmaster training and guiding junior volunteers, worked with responsible adults to bring Scouting to boys, met regularly with the Patrol Leaders' Council (PLC) for training and coordination in planning troop activities, delegated responsibility to other adults and groups (assistants, troop committees) so that they have a real part in troop operations. I sing in our Church Choir. I have given service in our Temple where one can leave their cares and troubles at the door and feel the Spirit of Christ, find direction and answers to problems, and come away with a greater resolve to do better and be better, more Christ like.
