Hi I'm Elder Birch

I'm currently serving a mission in New York. I love Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ and constantly try to come closer to them.

About Me

I love sports, reading, board games, and a ton of other things. I love nature and wildlife. I am super excited to be serving a full-time mission and I hope to be able to let the Spirit perform miracles and bring people to Christ through me.

Why I am a Mormon

I stay in the LDS church because I know that the gospel is true. I have prayed, and the Holy Spirit has told me that the Church is true, as well as it has told me that Joseph Smith and President Monson are true prophets of God. I also know that all of the other prophets were true prophets of God. I know that Joseph Smith saw what he said he saw, did what he said he did, and heard what he said he heard. I know that the Book of Mormon is true. I am very grateful for my testimony and the light that it brings into my life. In the name of the true and living son of God, our savior and redeemer, even Jesus Christ, amen.

How I live my faith

The first time I went to a youth summer activity our church puts on called Especially For Youth, or EFY for short, my counselor challenged us to read at least a verse for the rest of our lives. And so far, I have. Sometimes it gets surprisingly difficult to remember to do it, but a lot of times it's actually pretty easy. As if someone is helping me remember. Because God is. Through this daily remembrance of Him and other things, I have grown closer to our Father in Heaven. And I know that because I have made the effort to turn to Him and to always remember Him, He has, does, and will continue to help me make it through life. I am also currently serving a full-time mission and it is SUPER AWESOME!!!

Why do Mormons perform proxy baptisms in their temples?

Elder Birch
We perform baptisms for the dead because we believe that everyone needs to be able to enter into the Kingdom of God. The scriptures say that "no unclean thing can enter into the Kingdom of God." The scriptures are not talking about literally being dirty. They are talking about spiritual cleanliness. Thus, without being baptized and being cleansed of one's sins, nobody can enter God's Kingdom. Even Christ was baptized, even though he was a perfect being. Because God's plan is perfect, even those unable to be baptized in their mortal life will have the opportunity to receive this ordinance. The individuals who have passed away and then have their baptism done via proxy are not forced to accept the gospel. They always have the opportunity to accept or reject it. Show more Show less

Do Mormons worship Joseph Smith?

Elder Birch
We do not worship Joseph Smith or any other prophet. However, we do regard them as prophets of God, with divine authority to act as God's main mouthpiece, and to lead the Church through whatever happens. They have been given the Priesthood, which is the power and authority to act in God's name, and help lead the people of the earth through difficult times. Show more Show less
