Hi I'm Matthew

I'm a writer. I'm "living the dream" in New York City. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

Okay, to be honest, I don't really know what "living the dream" is. Still, from a very young age I've dreamed of coming to New York to pursue a career in theatre. I was born and raised in Sacramento, did my undergrad at Brigham Young University, and served a mission in Brazil. I'm currently pursuing a playwriting career, serving in the church, and living a life that I like to think my twelve-year-old self would think was pretty cool.

Why I am a Mormon

People often tell me it must be difficult for me to be a Mormon and live the standards of the church. In fact, I would find it infinitely more difficult to live in this world without the Gospel of Jesus Christ. I know I have a Heavenly Father who loves me and wants to be eternally happy. I know my Savior is intimately aware of my struggles and challenges. I know the Holy Ghost will always point me toward truth and light. I'm so grateful my life is anchored by steadfast and immovable principles and strive every day to live worthy of these incredible blessings.

How I live my faith

I try to allow my faith to permeate and influence every aspect of my life. I'm currently pursuing a career that could easily dominate my life but I always remember that I'm not an artist in spite of my testimony of the Gospel, but because of it. In fact, I think the motivating force behind my writing also compels me to follow Christ and live according to His teachings: I think truth, in its purest form, exists in this crazy world of ours and that we spend the balance of our lives trying to find it; the arts are just a few of the many tools we use in our search. I believe that the fulness of truth can be found in the scriptures and the teachings of Christ through His servants, ancient and contemporary. Art helps me draw closer to my Savior, the Savior I've come to know through my membership in His church.
