Hi I'm Walt

I am the retired chief of fisheries for the state of Utah. My wife and I are serving a Church Service-Mission. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

My lovely wife and I have 3 daughters, 2 sons, and 9 grandchildren. All of our children and grandchildren are active in the Church. We love them all and are proud of their accomplishments. We believe that children respond best to love, family values and a proper example. When we were married in the temple, we made a commitment to our Heavenly Father and each other to do our best to keep His commandments and stay active in the Church. In addition to family, I have a passion for the beauty of the earth, and the fish and wildlife that inhabitat it. This passion pulled me into the profession of fisheries management. My career path has allowed me to manage trout in the High Uinta mountains, manage all fisheries in southeastern Utah (i.e. Scofield Res), engage in all aspects of wildlife management in the Uinta Basin (management direction over Flaming Gorge / Green River and big game in the Book Cliffs), and eventually having management responsibility over all the fisheries programs in the state of Utah. Despite the biological knowledge we use to manage fisheries, when I am fishing with my sons on a Utah trout stream, I am ever amazed and humbled by the eternal order of life used to perpetuate species as designed by our Heavenly Father. We are currently serving as Church-serving Missionaries in Salt Lake helping to coordinate this program throughout the world. We love guiding others towards opportunities to serve the Lord.

Why I am a Mormon

My wife and I both had parents who were members of the Church of Jesus Christ. As such, the Church and it's activities for youth were an integral part of our lives. My parents set high expectations for us in terms of being active in the Church and attending seminary during high school years. My mother would read abridged stories from the Book of Mormon to us children. I have always had a strong testimony that our Heavenly Father and his Son, Jesus Christ, live. I have never doubted that They appeared to Joseph Smith, who is the greatest prophet in this dispensation. I have read the Book of Mormon many times, and know of it's truthfulness. This knowledge has always been a strength to me to set the best example I can both in and out of the Church. I know that I am not perfect, but hope someday to thank all the good people who I have known and worked with for being a part of who I am today.

How I live my faith

Besides being a Church-service missionary, I am currently a Stake Executive Secretary in Syracuse, Utah. During my early adult years, I worked a great deal with the young men in the Church. We particularly enjoyed the time out of doors, and helping these teenagers grow up to be responsible men in their communities. I believe in setting spiritual values and expectations for youth, and then do your best to live by example. I served a mission because I was called by a prophet to do so, and set the same expectation for my sons. My wife and I set the same expectation for all our children with striving for worthiness and being married in the temple. I strongly believe that the more we strive to know our Heavenly Father, and better understand the Atonement of Jesus Christ, the more love and peace we will receive in return. I also know that our Father in Heaven loves us so much that he frequently guides us by the Spirit to do the right thing, particularly when we ask his help.

Does The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints endorse political parties?

Walt
The Church does not endorse political parties or specific candidates running for public office. They do endorse correct principles of righteousness, and encourage members to be engaged in their communities in order to make them better and safer places to live. Show more Show less
