Hi I'm Cynthia.

I am a family practice doctor, a musician, a mother of five... and I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I am a family practice physician working part time juggling a career and family. I have a loving husband and five young children. I have a great love of education and music. I play the piano, the organ, have directed choirs, and teach my children music lessons. Our family loves going on bike rides, walks, playing at the park, swimming, and spending other quality time together. I was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis (MS) over 15 years ago during the middle of medical school. The vision in my left eye was suddenly gone and I lost the use of my right hand for six weeks. Since that time, I have seen and felt God's power in my life and His tender mercies as I have been healed again and again and recovered completely from the relapses of MS. I love to serve and help other people, whether it be with their medical, personal, or spiritual needs. I have seen the truth in the scriptures that, "He that findeth his life shall lose it: and he that loseth his life for my sake shall find it." (Matthew 10:39)

Why I am a Mormon

I am a Mormon because I know it's true. I have studied the life of Jesus Christ and His words in the Bible and have felt the truth of His words. I have also studied His words and the words of His prophets in the Book of Mormon and have felt the truth of His words in this book. The Book of Mormon is a second witness of the life and mission and teachings of Jesus Christ and supports the Bible. After studying, pondering, and praying, I have also felt the peace and knowledge from God confirming that this is God's true church. I seek after truth, whether it be to help and heal people as a family physician or to help and bless those around me. However, I know that the only true source of healing and truth comes from Heavenly Father and His Son, Jesus Christ. Some of life's most difficult questions, such as: Who am I?, What is the purpose of life? Where and how can I find true happiness? Is there life after death?, are answered by the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, also known as the Mormons. These answers and eternal truths have helped me along the pathway of life as difficult struggles and trials have come upon me and important life choices have had to be made. Understanding that we are sons and daughters of a loving Heavenly Father who sent us here on earth to be tested and tried and that He has provided a Savior, Jesus Christ, to atone for our sins, has enlarged my perspective and capacity to endure life’s hardships and to make better choices that will lead me back to Jesus Christ. The gospel of Jesus Christ is here on the earth even as it was when the Savior lived on the earth. Spiritual blessings and miracles by God cannot be explained by intellectual reasoning. These things are explained by the Spirit. They are felt. They are known. They are enlightened. God is a God of intelligence and truth. May you study His words and teachings and pray unto to Him to see if they are true.

How I live my faith

Prayer has been a great support in my life. I am reminded daily of God's sustaining power. After being diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis as a medical student and experiencing multiple symptoms, God has sustained me to be able to finish medical school, complete a medical residency, and raise five children. I currently serve as a community physician and continue to play the piano and organ with both hands and feet. God is truly merciful. I know that His Son Jesus Christ lives! I know the importance of reading and studying the scriptures every day and teaching them to my children. The story is told of a wise Indian chief who said that there is a good wolf and a bad wolf struggling inside each of us. Whichever wolf you feed the most is the one you will become. If you feed your spirit and mind with good things and truths of Jesus Christ, then that is what you will become. You will become like Him. I live my faith by serving others around me at home, at work, and at church. I teach Sunday School, help with the music, and visit with those with challenges, knowing that is what the Savior did. I see those struggling around me and often wish I could share my peace and happiness with them; the knowledge of the Savior and His plan for us, why we are here, where we are going, and the purpose of life. Truly, the only way for peace and happiness is through repentance and obedience to God's commandments. If you take the time to ponder, pray, and study the Book of Mormon, you will come to know that it testifies of Jesus Christ and that it is true.

What is the Word of Wisdom that Mormons talk about?

Cynthia.
The word of wisdom is a code for good health. God revealed this law of health to a Prophet named Joseph Smith in 1833. This was over 100 years before the medical profession was able to prove and see the science behind the harmful effects of tobacco, alcohol, illegal drugs, coffee, and tea. It emphasizes the benefits of proper eating and physical and spiritual health. What a great blessing of knowledge it is to us, as was the ark that Noah was commanded to build, even before any hint of rain was seen. Show more Show less
