Hi I'm Kaylyn

I'm a student and full of hope. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I was born and raised in Ohio, and came to Utah for school. I had the privilige and opportunity to serve a mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Washington. For the next two years, I'll be studying a lot! I'm majoring in Sociology with a minor in TESOL (Teaching English as a Second Language). Professionally, I hope to teach English to both children and adults, whether in the United States or abroad. I would love to work with underprivileged children who speak English as their second language. I am so grateful for the opportunity that I had to serve the Lord full-time in the beautiful state of Washington. Serving as a missionary was truly the most wonderful experience of my life.

Why I am a Mormon

Without the gospel of Jesus Christ in my life, I would be nowhere. Because Jesus Christ is my best friend, each and every day of my life miracles occur that make me into a better person with each step I take. Like many teenagers, I hated myself in high school. Truly, I hated myself. On the outside, I seemed "perfect"- perfect grades, perfect social life, perfect dreams. I had everything figured out. On the inside, I felt like I could never do anything right. I constantly put myself down and though there were many moments of happiness, I never felt true joy. In these dark times, I turned to my Savior and Redeemer. It was through Him that I began to know what true happiness was. Happiness did not come right away, in fact, it was not until after my high school graduation that I was finally able to look in the mirror and recognize that I am a child of God. Today, I don't have doubts about who I am. Heavenly Father loves me, just as He loves all of His children. He blesses my life each day, whether through tender mercies or big miracles. I can feel His love surrounding me and can see His arms outstretched towards me as I strive to keep His commandments. Each day I try to become like Him, I learn to love Him even more. And, as my love for Him grows, my love for those around me also increases. I am so blessed with now for the opportunity that I have to more fully devote my life to helping others, turning my life over to the Lord to bless His children.

How I live my faith

"Love thy neighbor as thyself." I love service. In fact, I changed not only my major but my entire career plan because I want to help other people the best way that I can-through teaching. There have been many opportunities for me to serve during my time here in college- working as a Resident Assistant, working as a mentor in freshman writing classes, directing a program that promotes literacy amongst adults and children, and volunteering at the Missionary Training Center. Anytime I can put my own needs and desires aside to bless and help another is always the best part of my day :) The greatest opportunity I will have had to serve was definitely my mission-- to be able to focus 100% on the needs of others and invite others to come unto Christ. I intend to continue to apply those things that I learned from my mission in the rest of my life.
