Hi I'm Kirsten

I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I absolutely love animals! I have loved volunteering at shelters, adopting cats, and training dogs. I show my border collie and I really love the opportunity to be with so many new people with a common love and respect for dogs. I am most proud of my beautiful family--they are funny and sassy, smart and competitive, compassionate and giving. It's a huge responsibility to guide my 3 kids through life's challenges, but I wouldn't trade it for anything! My husband is my rock....the love of my life...the coolest person I know. I teach over achieving students in advanced science and math. It's so much fun to go to work!!! If I ever have quiet time, I scrapbook, quilt (not well,) and train my dog.

Why I am a Mormon

From a very early age, I knew without a doubt that I had a Heavenly Father and that Jesus Christ was my saviour. The hard part was finding them in this big, confusing world! I have attended many churches faithfully, always searching, but could never find Them... It wasn't until I was 30 that a dear friend asked me to come to church. I knew right away-despite the confusion and nervousness that comes with something very new--that this was indeed the one true church. There was a lot to learn, but I have never doubted that this is absolutely where I need to be and how I need to live. Being a Mormon has drawn me so much closer to my Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ.

How I live my faith

My daily life is devoted to being a good example to those around me. Being a Mormon has made me a much better neighbor, friend, daughter, wife, and mother. I have had a lot of fun, wonderful opportunities to serve others in the community and at church. I have taught adorable 3 and 4 years olds every Sunday--I helped them learn about the scriptures through interesting stories, songs, games, and activities. I have also taught the 8 and 9 year olds in their after-school activity program. It was so neat to help them develop new talents! A very special calling I had, one that will always be near and dear to my heart, was teaching the 12 to 17 year old girls to develop their talents. I had such a special experience encouraging and guiding them as they grew from children to young adults. I still have them as friends on facebook and have gone to their weddings and baby showers over the years. I try every single day to be more loving, more giving, less judgmental, less worried about the small things and more devoted to an eternal perspective. I struggle like everyone, but with the Lord's help, I am able to move forward with a song in my heart. I cannot mention religion at my job, but my students know I am a Mormon and I love The Lord! I try to be a bright light in this world.

What is a “testimony” that Mormons speak of?

Meetings are absolutely wonderful! The first hour is held in the Chapel-during this time we all take turns preparing and delivering beautiful, informative talks. Once a month, this hour is devoted to the bearing of testimonies. It is a chance for anyone to stand before everyone and express those deep, powerful truths and feelings that are swelling within your heart regarding our Heavenly Father, Jesus Christ, family, friends, leaders of the church, etc. The other 2 hours are devoted to age specific teachings. I never thought I would love 3 hours of church, but I really, really do! It gives me the fuel I need to tackle my week! Show more Show less
