Hi I'm Polly

I'm a Mormon. I did not grow up in the church, but joined as an adult.

About Me

I grew up in a small, mid-west farming community. As an adult, I have lived in IL, MO, KS, UT, MN, GA, AZ and CA. Mostly in cities, but in the last five years have lived more rurally again. I have four children and our joke is that we don't go on vacation, we just move there! My favorite job has been being a Mom but I have also worked in health care and in higher education. I recently completed my Masters degree and am looking to start the career I put on hold to raise my family. My hobbies include scrapbooking, cooking and working out. One of my goals is to compete in a triathlon. I love animals animals and have a horse and a Golden Retriever.

Why I am a Mormon

I joined the church 18 months after moving to Utah. Prior to living in Utah, I had only met one family that was Mormon and didn't know much about them. After living in Utah, I met many people who were Mormon and was really impressed with the children, especially the teens that I came in contact with. One day in particular my husband and I drove around near BYU on a Sunday and I was shocked at the number of college students that were walking in groups to attend church. The idea that these kids chose to attend church rather than having their parents make them left a lasting impression upon me. Through a series of events, I decided to attend a sacrament meeting, only planning on staying for the first meeting. I stayed for all three meetings and was deeply moved by what I heard. I couldn't believe how quickly the time and gone by and how much I could wait to come back. As I later studied with the missionaries, I learned to pray and that my prayers would be answered by a loving Heavenly Father. I read the Book of Mormon and knew that Jesus Christ was my Savior and that He was indeed aware of me as I saw His hand in my life. Since joining the church, my life has only been more enriched as my knowledge of the gospel and my Savior have grown. Being a member has made me a better mother to my children and a better person to those around me and I'm grateful to my Heavenly Father for the gift of the gospel in my life.

How I live my faith

There are different ways I have lived my faith. I have served in my community by cleaning up parks, helping to repair homes, and cleaning up old graveyards and on a more personal level, I have helped take people in need to the hospital or doctor, I have cleaned homes, taken in meals, and sang in nursing homes. I have assisted my boys in the scouting program as they have undertaken many service projects to help collect food for food banks and put together hygiene kits for a battered women's shelter to name a few. At church, I have had many jobs teaching youth, organizing and coaching young women in sporting activities, teaching gospel lessons and assisting in teaching women various homemaking activities.

What is the Relief Society?

Relief Society is the women's organization of the church. Relief Society to me is more like angels on the earth. This organization has provided me with some of my best friends, taught me greater kindness, they have taken care of me, allowed me to take care of them, lifted me when I was down and rejoiced with me. They come from a variety of circumstances and are of varied ages, but together we share a common love of our Savior and we strive to live the gospel which provides binds us together in a way that I've been unable to find anywhere else. I love these women. Show more Show less
