Hi I'm Donovan

I grew up in American Fork, Utah. Music is my thing. I'm a disciple of Jesus Christ, and it just so happens that I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I grew up in a family that is active in the Mormon church. I took many of the things I learned as a child for granted. I am forever grateful for the amazing examples my family members have set for me. I was very involved in a variety of activities growing up in Utah. I played a bunch of sports, but I grew a special appreciation and passion for Soccer. I was involved with cub scouts and boy scouts. I am an Eagle Scout. :D I love hanging out with my family and friends. Most of my life has been swallowed up in all the musical things I've been involved in. I've been involved with musical theater, as an actor, and as a member of the pit orchestra. I've been in jazz bands, concert bands, Latino bands, orchestras, and more. I play a few musical instruments, but Trombone is my specialty. You name it, and I've probably been involved in it. I just love everything with music! I love how music plays a significant role in my spirituality as well. Singing hymns is one of my favorite parts of going to church meetings. I am currently serving as a missionary in the New Jersey, Morristown Mission. I feel the same as Elder Holland when he said, "My mission has done more for me than it could have done for anybody else." I love this church! The members are amazing no matter where you go!

Why I am a Mormon

Before my mission I had many amazing spiritual experiences that helped me begin to develop my testimony of the Savior Jesus Christ. As I have been on my mission, my testimony of Jesus Christ has become deeper, wider, and stronger. The most important thing I have gained in my life is my testimony and knowledge of Jesus Christ. I know that he lives! "Oh sweet the joy this sentence gives, I know that my redeemer lives." (from the hymn I Know That My Redeemer Lives) I am a Mormon because of the joy and happiness that comes from being a member of this church. Jesus himself said, "If ye know these things, happy are ye if ye do them" (John 13:17) I can't think of any better way than to describe myself and so many of the members of this church. I have come to know through my own experience that it is only through obedience to the teachings of Jesus Christ that bring true and lasting happiness. I love the opportunities that I have to serve others in this church, temporally and spiritually. I know without a doubt that this church is true, that God lives, and that His only begotten Son Jesus Christ, is the Savior and Redeemer of the world. I know that the Book of Mormon is true. It is the foundation of my testimony. I know that Joseph Smith was a true prophet, the prophet to restore the Gospel of Jesus Christ back onto the Earth. This church continues to be led by divine revelation from God through the prophet Thomas S. Monson. I love the inspiration of church leaders! My testimony could go on and on and on, but I'll leave it at that for now.

How I live my faith

Right now I am serving as a missionary in the New Jersey Morristown Mission. I can think of no better way to live what I believe. I always strive to "trust in God with all [mine] heart, and lean not unto [mine] own understanding. In all [my] ways acknowledge Him, and He shall direct [my] paths." Proverbs 3:5-6 That is the scripture I try to live by everyday of my life. It can be very difficult at times, but day after day my testimony of that passages sinks deeper into my heart. I try to keep the commandments to the best of my abilities. Another hymn that describes how I feel is "I Stand All Amazed". I am humbled to be a holder of the Priesthood, and I also strive to fulfill all my duties as a priesthood holder. In the past I have served as a primary class teacher as well. What an amazing experience to be able to teach little children and to feel of their spirits! A very sweet spirit comes from serving others. I have been grateful for all the callings I have received and I try to magnify them, which means simply to do all the service that pertains to that calling. I look forward to all the callings I will receive in the future, whatever they may be. I try to be more Christlike everyday! I have many weaknesses, but it's good cause I'll never run out of things to work on. :)
