Hi I'm Doug Helvig

An Arizona native, I was raised in Prescott - one of the best towns in the West. A great place to be a kid! I'm a Mormon!

About Me

I am a very happily married man (30 years) with a loving wife and 4 beautiful children. I have been in financial services for 31 years as a banker. After High School, I went to college as a music major since I wanted to be a music teacher. I discovered music in High School when I joined a rock n roll band, playing bass guitar and singing background vocals. After a year of music education in college, I decided to serve a mission for the Church and was called to the Indiana Indianapolis Mission. I served throughout Indiana and part of Ohio. I returned home to find that music was not a viable occupation as they were not adding music teachers to schools. I turned to business since I was able to land a job as a teller at a local bank. It stuck as I am continuing to work in banking today and while there are many challenges, it has provided good support for my family. I still love music and had a DJ business that my son and i operated for several years. I enjoy going to concerts and still play my bass guitar. I have a Suzuki C50 cruiser and love to get out on the road for rides on quiet Saturday mornings. My wife and I enjoy our kids, grandkids and going to movies. Every Fall, we go to Carlsbad, CA to spend a week on the beach. She reads a book under a shade umbrella. I spend time in the waves with my boogie board. We also love Disneyland and are annual passport holders. We have a good life!

Why I am a Mormon

I believe there is a kind and loving Heavenly Father that wants us to live with Him again. He sent His son, Jesus Christ, to atone for each of us to make this possible. Jesus was the perfect example to each of us on how to live our lives. While on earth, he organized His church with apostles and prophets. As the apostles were killed and departed this life, the simple truths and basic organization was lost. In the early 1800's, Joseph Smith asked Heavenly Father for the truth. Heavenly Father and His son, Jesus Christ appeared to Joseph Smith. Shortly after that time, the true organization of Christ's church was restored. We have the power and authority of the Priesthood on the earth today with a living prophet and apostles to lead and guide us. I chose to be a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. I asked my Father in Heaven if it was true and through the Holy Spirit, He manifested to me that it is indeed true. Knowing this, I have a firm testimony of the Book of Mormon. It is a second witness of the divine mission of Jesus Christ. We do have a purpose here on earth. We are here to live up to our potential, to serve others, and to honor our Heavenly Father through being obedient and by keeping His commandments. What I love about my church is that I know that families can be forever. We can live together as a family throughout the eternities. The love and joy I share with my wife can last forever, not to end at death in this mortal life. Having a testimony of this provides us with hope and joy regardless of the challenges and heartaches we experience during our life on earth. As a member of the true church, I know that - I am a child of God, and that families can be together forever.

How I live my faith

I try to be a good person to everyone I associate with every day. I volunteer to help others through not only the Church, but in the community as well. I have been active in the Boy Scouts, United Way, and other service organizations. I teach lessons at Church to the adult men about their responsibilities as fathers and active members of the Church - how to be more like our Savior, Jesus Christ. My wife and I try to be good examples to our children by serving others and by being active by going to our meetings and Sunday worship services. We enjoy going to church and learning more about Heavenly Father and His plan for us to return to Him.

Are Mormons Christians?

Doug Helvig
I know that Jesus Christ lives and that He is my Redeemer. I know of His love for me and that He wants me to follow His example in serving others to do good in the world. As I follow the commandments and make Him a part of my life through the Atonement, I will live in glory through the eternities with my family and in the presence of Jesus and our Heavenly Father. This is all part of the plan of happiness that we knew would be available to us as we came to earth to live. Show more Show less
