Hi I'm Kevin Smith

I'm a missionary in Florida, I like to sing and laugh, I love my family, and I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I was born and raised in Bakersfield, California and moved to Roy, Utah halfway through high school. I am currently serving a full-time mission in Florida for Christ's Church. I attended school at Weber State University before going out to serve a mission. I have five brothers and one sister, and four of them are married. I am also blessed with four nephews and one niece! I've previously worked at a trampoline park, a photo lab, a river rafting company, a high school, and a university! When I get back from serving a mission, I will be going to school to earn a degree in physical education, with a math teaching minor. I hope to teach high school math after I graduate. I love to play (and watch) sports! I actually hope to coach baseball or tennis in the future. I love to sing, especially when it's in a choir or group setting! I'm a member of the Constitution party, and like to know what is going on in political things both locally and nationally. But most importantly, I am a Christian, a disciple of Jesus Christ.

Why I am a Mormon

I know, without doubt, that this is Christ's Church. And I haven't always known that! I grew up a member of this Church. I'd been taught about what happens after death, why we're here on this earth, and all other things I could ever want answers to. But I didn't believe any of it. I had never prayed to my Heavenly Father to ask if they were true, so I didn't have a knowledge of these things for myself. I didn't do what I'd been taught to do, to keep me protected from Satan's grasp. I didn't pray, nor did I study the scriptures on my own time. So, consequently, I made poor decisions when temptation came. After feeling what it was like to walk in darkness, I wanted what other members of the Church had. I wanted to follow Christ, and experience all the blessings that had been promised through obedience. I started to listen to what was being said at Church. I showed faith: read the scriptures, prayed to God, and asked for forgiveness of my sins. And because of Jesus Christ, and His sacrifice for me, I know that I am forgiven, and can continue to be forgiven for my shortcomings. I know that both God the Father and Jesus Christ appeared to a young, humble boy of only 14 years of age. I have read the Book of Mormon, and have seen what came from that eventful day. I know that Joseph Smith was called to be His prophet, that the Book of Mormon is truly a record of God's people in America. And that is why I'm a "Mormon." Because through the Holy Ghost, I came to know this is His Church.

How I live my faith

I try to live (and obviously fall short) how Christ lived. As I read the scriptures, and listen to modern-day revelation from God through my leaders, the Holy Ghost tells me what it is I need to do to be more Christlike, and what it is I need to do to refine myself. I try to show kindness to all that I meet. I actively try to smile at others, to try to brighten their day. As a bearer of God's Priesthood (having God's Priesthood means that you can speak and act in Christ's name, preforming works and blessings as He would do) I try to share the gospel with others, and act as Christ would act. I try not to speak ill of those around me, and try to share Christ's message through not only words but actions too, providing service and charity to others. In church, I'm serving through being out on a two year mission - teaching people what they need to know in order to live with God and their families again someday. And by serving as closely as I can to how Jesus Himself would serve, I really feel closer to Him, because I know that is what He wants me to be doing, and is what He would be doing if He were here on this Earth today. My faith in Christ means everything to me. And I try to improve daily to be more like Him.

To what do you attribute the growth of the Church?

Kevin Smith
This is Jesus Christ's church! He promised in the book of Daniel in the Old Testament that a stone cut out of the mountain would roll forth and fill the whole earth. This was a prophesy long ago that Christ's true and living church would prosper. And we are seeing the fulfillment of that prophesy today. The missionaries that we send out have God's Spirit with them. People feel and recognize the truth of our message because God Himself reveals it through feelings of love, joy, and peace (see Gal 5:22). We as a church seek to follow Christ's commandment to take His true and living gospel to all the ends of the earth. And when people feel the Holy Spirit testifying to them that this is God's true and living church on the earth today, why would they not want to join it?! Show more Show less
