Hi I'm John

I am a husband, father, optometrist, mountain biker and I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I grew up in the LDS church, served a 2 year mission in Venezuela. I did my post-grad studies in Chicago Illinois to be an optometrist and now live in my favorite place in the world, doing what I love, with those I love, my wife and daughter. I enjoy spending my free time on my mountain bike, road bike, or when I don't feel like pedaling on my dirtbike.

Why I am a Mormon

I'm a mormon simply because it has given me purpose in my life. I find the religion can be challenging to live at times, but by following the teachings of the church, I've been truely happy. I've gradually come to realize that there is indeed a purpose for life and all that I experience in it is for my growth and benefit. I've seen first-hand the peace and joy that comes from the knowledge of where I came from, why I'm here, and where I'm going. I wouldn't want it any other way. I believe we were not meant to know all the mysteries of life at this time of probation on earth. Faith is needed in our lives to help us grow and progress. I've learned more about lifes mysteries in mormonism than I could have in any other religion on earth.

How I live my faith

I serve in the Elder's quorum of my ward. I help organize service projects, fun activities, and opportunities for spiritual growth for those in our congregation.

What do Mormons believe is the purpose of life?

John
I believe another reason why we are here is to have joy! I've learned there is a difference between counterfeit joy and true joy. Counterfeit being temporary, fleeting, and never sustaining. Counterfeit joy can't satisfy completely. Often times counterfeit joy is can be counter productive and even dangerous if it leads us down an addictive or destructive path. True joy on the other hand is not as obvious, but is easily found if searched for. Jesus Christ instructed us to simply follow him to have this joy. He taught that if we drink of his water we would never thirst again. When I have tasted of the joy from Christ I know that its the fulfilling warmth that stays with us forever and encourages us to love and serve one another. I've never been happier and more at peace than when I'm following Christ and serving my fellow man. To have joy is pare of the purpose of life for me. Show more Show less
