Why don’t Mormons drink coffee, tea, or alcohol? What is the Mormon Church’s law of health and proper diet?

Usher Miller Christopher D.
Our body is a precious gift from God. To help keep our bodies and our minds healthy and strong, God gave a law of health to Joseph Smith in 1833. This law is known as the Word of Wisdom (see Doctrine and Covenants 89:1-21). In addition to emphasizing the benefits of proper eating and physical and spiritual health, God has spoken against the use of: ■Tobacco. ■Alcohol. ■Coffee and tea. ■Illegal drugs. God promises great physical and spiritual blessings to those who follow the Word of Wisdom. Today, the scientific community promotes some of the same principles that a loving God gave to Joseph Smith nearly two centuries ago. Show more Show less

Can a husband and wife be together forever? Do Mormons believe that families will live together in heaven?

Usher Miller Christopher D.
Yes families will live together. Yes they know one another. Jesus Christ gave power to His disciples to seal families together forever when He said, “And I will give unto thee the keys of the kingdom of heaven: and whatsoever thou shalt bind on earth shall be bound in heaven: and whatsoever thou shalt loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven” (Matthew 16:19). Death does not need to be the end of our relationships with cherished loved ones. We will live together as a family once again with our Heavenly father. I know those that I have lost in my family are in Heaven looking down on me and when I die I will be with them again in Heaven. We was in Heaven with God, was told the plan, decided to do it, we live our life, learn of Christ, die, go through the vale, and will be with our families once again. Show more Show less

Do Mormons only help Mormons?

Usher Miller Christopher D.
No. Much of what is done in the Church is to bless and help those who are not Mormon. In addition not all families and communities are Mormon. When we or you help your family with things and family members (who are not Mormon) or help those in your community(who are not Mormon) you are helping people who are not of the church. People who are Mormons also help people who did not even have a relationship with God. This is done by having duties at temple to help those who died before ever hearing of the Book of Mormon. We do this work because Gods word was restored and many did not know the full truth and didnt know what being Mormon even is. The Church also has community Personal Prepareness classes to help Mormon & those who are not Mormon on what to do in the event of a emergency. These events are family events for saftey & everyone is invited Mormon or not. The Mormon Church has donated more than $1 billion in cash and material assistance to 167 different countries in need of humanitarian aid since it started keeping track in 1985. More than 53,000 Mormon missionaries serve through the world today. All of their service is to help those who are not Mormon. Mormon missionaries go door to door & tell people who dont know about the Book of Mormon what it is and what the book is about. Show more Show less

What is being a Mormon like?

Usher Miller Christopher D.
Its the greatest thing in the world to be Mormon and have a calling within the Church of Jesus Christ. It seriously the greatest thing ever. One of the greatest reasons for being here on earth is to "have joy" The Plan of Salvation and knowing what it is, it a blessing and wonderful thing. Personal prayer, scripture study, and attending church helps us better understand that the best way to find joy and happiness in this life is to know about Our Heavenly Father's Plan of Happiness, the gospel of Jesus Christ, and to strive to keep God's "law" (Proverbs 29:18). Families are an essential part of God's Plan and much of how we live focuses on our families. We want to share the happiness we enjoy with everyone we can through service, missionary work, and contributing to society. Being Mormon is great because of the Priesthood and because we have the truth and the full light. In addition our Prophet holds all the keys and we are blessed to understand that. Do Mormons practice polygamy?

Usher Miller Christopher D.
No. This Church has nothing whatever to do with those practicing polygamy. They are not members of this Church. While you are married to you wife you can be sealed to her. Marriages have to be performed through the sealing power of the priesthood. However, If you out live your wife (she dies), you may be married again if you fall in love with someone new. The Lord’s law of marriage is monogamy unless he commands otherwise to help establish the House of Israel Show more Show less
