Hi I'm Jim

I'm a life-long member of The Church Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints; often referred to as the Mormon Church.

About Me

My wife and I are parents of 8 children who are now adults and engaged in their many pursuits. We have 12 and soon will have 13 grandchildren. I have served in the US Army and retired as an officer. I am an attorney by profession and I have served in many community and church positions. I really enjoy time with my grandchildren. It is fascinating to see them grow and learn. Like others my age I enjoy associating with friends and neighbors. My wife and I spend a lot of our available time together and we enjoy traveling. We have been fortunate to travel to nearly every continent and we most of the countries in Europe. When I was 19 I served a two year full-time mission for my church in Germany. Unfortunately that is one country that I have not yet been able to visit with my wife.

Why I am a Mormon

Some might conclude that I am a Mormon because I was raised a Mormon. And although all my family members are members of the LDS Church, that is not why I am a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. I have been fortunate to have enjoyed a good and advanced education. And I have studied a great deal about the history and dealings of my church. I am aware of the good as well as the negative aspects reported about my church. But that is not why am a Mormon, either. I have lived among and associated with members of the Church all my life, some who are very active in their membership, others who are not, some who are leaders and senior officers of the Church. I have greatly enjoyed and benefitted from my association with all these people; but that also is not why I am a Mormon. I am a Mormon because I know that there is a God. I know he is our Heavenly Father; every human being who has, does now, or will live on the earth is a son or daughter of Him. His son is Jesus Christ. Jesus Christ is our Savior; He lives. He was resurrected from the dead and because of Him, all mankind will be resurrected too and will live after death. And Jesus Christ, by His atonement, made it possible for me and anyone else who will follow Him to be saved from sin and live eternally with our Heavenly Father. I know this because I also know that the Holy Ghost is the third and separate member of the Godhead. I know all this because the Holy Ghost has spiritually confirmed these truths to me. I know this as certainly as I know anything else. And I know that these same truths can be obtained by anyone who seeks it with real intent and has faith in Jesus Christ. I am a Momon because the Holy Ghost has revealed to me in a very plain and clear way that it is the church of Jesus Christ and that the authority to teach truth and perform acts required by Heavenly Father so that we can enjoy eternal life is found in its fullness only in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

How I live my faith

One thing that I do to live my faith is that I serve as a home teacher in my Ward (congregation). I and my 17 year old companion Jake have been assigned by our Bishop (Ward Leader) to watch over and visit three families. These folks are my neighbors. Our responsibility is to help make sure that these families are happy, healthy, successful, welcome among members of the church and the community and to assist them in whatever way we can. It can sometimes be a very demanding responsibility but most of the time it involves a monthly visit and an occasional greeting as we see each other in our regular activities. Serving as a home teacher is part of being a Christian. I believe that when we are in the service of others we are serving God.
