Why I am a Mormon

I suppose I've always had a testimony of the gospel and of the church and everything, but I never truly felt converted until I was 17. I believed I could receive answers to my prayers cuz I had in the past (or had been lucky) so I decided to really put prayer to the test one day. I am truly Mormon because of this test. I got up one day with all the questions in my head. It was a time in my life when I was truly wonderin about my purpose and what I should do with my life. So with all these questions in mind, havin to do with if everything I had been told was true, I went for a hike. It wasn't a very long hike. It's rather short really but it has a pretty good view of my home town and I would often go there to think. When I started the hike it was rather difficult for me this time around. I didn't know why but I started to get tired really fast. But I didn't wanna turn around and go back. That would just be dumb. So with determination I finished the hike. When I arrived at the view I let my knees buckle and I began to offer a kneeling prayer out loud. I instantly had a feeling overcome me. It was the best feeling ever. I knew then from that moment that God exists, that he loves me, and that everything I had been taught growin up is true. I also learned that the reason the short hike was so difficult was because the adversary Satan was workin against me. This strengthened my new conversion and testimony. And so I know the church and everything it teaches without a doubt is true.

Personal Stories

Why do Mormons go on missions?

We go on missions to help, to share, to try and show this joy that we have felt when we discovered the truth of it all. I can personally say that the mission is the best decision I have made in my life thus far. And I love it.

What is hope and what do you hope for?

Hope to me is not only believing, but knowing that good things will come. In having the attitude that times will get better so long as I do what is right. I hope for a brighter day. I hope for the sunrise every morning. I have hope for those that I love. I have hope that the Gospel can bless anyone and everyone.

In what ways have your prayers been answered?

The earliest time in my life that I can remember my prayers being answered was when I was about 10 years old. I lost my glasses during recess at school, and couldn't find them the whole day. Then after school ended my mother, one of my friends and myself looked for it scanning the entire grounds of the school. We looked for around a half hour with no luck. Than my mom said we should say a prayer. So we did and not 5 minutes later we found my glasses. My prayers have been answered many times. But this was the first time one was answered that I can remember in my life. Because answers to prayer are real I know that the church is true. That the Book of Mormon is true. That everything the church teaches is true. Because of this testimony I have obtained through prayer I will never deny this church. Prayer really works.

Could you talk about your baptism?

I was 8 years old when I was baptized and confirmed. I don't remember tons of details. But my family was there. And I felt there love for me. When I came out of the water I felt a sort of cleansing feeling. Like how when a dirty glass of water suddenly becomes clear when you let the tap in the sink pour water on it for a few moments. It was more of an internal feeling than something physical. I just felt good. I felt like I was doin something right. I also remember I couldn't help but smile that day:) It was a good day.

Which of the Savior’s teachings have influenced you in your life?

Probly the biggest teaching the Savior taught that has influenced me the most is to Love one Another. When I was a Junior in high school I came to a point where I wanted to be a better a person. I just wanted to do good. So I made a resolve to do that. And so I applied Love one Another. I do the best I can to not say bad things about other people, only good things. I give help the best I can to anyone and everyone. I just do my best to be like the Savior. I want to be like him and just "go about doing good."

What has helped develop greater harmony in your home?

Listening to the modern day Prophet. Obeying the commandments. Living the Gospel. Family prayer and study. Attending church. Just living righteously and livin how God has told us to live.

How I live my faith

I live my faith by serving a mission. Also by trying to help anyone I see in need of help. I look for opportunities to serve, and I participate in activities in church. I earnestly try to be more like Christ. I read my scriptures every day finding new insights and growing spiritually. I also pour out my heart in mighty prayer to my Father in Heaven every day and throughout the day. I can proudly say I'm a mormon.
