Hi I'm Leah

I'm a missionary in Santa Rosa California and a student at BYU! I love to learn and am happy to be serving the Lord.

About Me

I am 19 years old and I attend Brigham Young University as a Geology Major. I play soccer, swim, and am learning to embroider. I am a missionary of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in the California Santa Rosa Mission, Spanish Speaking. I am a friend, a sister, an aunt, and I am a Mormon.

Why I am a Mormon

I have been fortunate to be born into a Mormon family reaching back to Pioneer days on both sides. When I was a child it was easy to rely on this heritage but as I got older and entered High School I realized that I was limiting myself and my understanding of the gospel by not building my own testimony. When my older siblings left for college I found myself really struggling with my faith and was forced to decide for myself if this was a gospel I was willing to devote my life to, or if I was simply going to church to make my parents happy. At this time I was also very depressed and struggling in my daily life. Sister Erickson and Sister Davis, missionaries in my ward, saw my struggle when nobody else did and they invited me to teach with them. I decided to go on a mini mission and while serving with them for 24 hours I was filled with happiness and peace and a desire to serve the Lord. When I returned home I prayed hard to know for myself of the truthfulness of the gospel and received a powerful confirmation that this truly was the Lord's true and restored church. Ever since then I have devoted myself to the study and service of the gospel and I have found myself overcoming that depression and reaching so much happiness that I never thought I would be able to feel. I know that this is the Lord's true and restored church and that he wants me to serve a mission. I could not be happier with my decision to be a member of this church and I am so grateful for the blessing of my mission so that I can help others to find this happiness in their lives as well.

How I live my faith

I love to attend my church activities and before and after my Mission to attend YSA events. I loved to serve in my calling of teaching the 4 year old class of primary as I was preparing to serve a mission. I love to serve and find ways every day to do the Lord's will. As I go through my day I look for opportunities to understand and better the lives of those around me as a friend, family member, or co-worker. Even if its something as simple as making dinner or taking on an extra task. I love the peace and joy I feel as I live this gospel and the better relationships I have with those around me. As I study my scriptures, pray regularly, and stay in places the Holy Spirit can be I have found so much light and so much joy. I love the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints.

Why do Mormons baptize their new members?

Baptism is one of the most beautiful parts of this gospel. God has commanded that all must be baptized and made clean in Him so that we can return to His presence. When a new member is baptized they are making a covenant, or promise, to Him that they will serve Him and follow His commandments. In return He promises that their previous sins are all forgiven and washed away and that He will bless their lives continually as they remain worthy. It is truly a wonderful thing which brings so many wonderful blessings into the new members life. Show more Show less
