Hi I'm Katy

I grew up in California, love to travel, and I share a name with a blue-haired pop star. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I work at a small accounting firm, and consider myself and "eterna-student." Because I have a Bachelors in Psychology, I need to take night and/or online classes to get the business and accounting credits necessary to sit for CPA exam. I don't take myself too seriously, and am quite easily amused. As a Disneyland annual passholder, I'm also geeky.

Why I am a Mormon

My testimony grew slowly, but really solidified when I was 19. I had fallen away during high school, but finally started spending more time with other members, and attending Institute. I finally prayed about the Book of Mormon, and felt a calm assurance that it was true. When I was on the mission, I decided I should actually pray about Joseph Smith being a prophet, and I got a strong confirmation that he was. The real confirmation of Joseph Smith being the prophet of the restoration was the first time I had to teach a family about him in Spanish. I was really nervous, because my Spanish was not that good, and I could barely understand the Spaniards when they spoke to me. However, when I began telling the story of how Joseph Smith had prayed about which church to join, and received an answer in the form of a vision of God the Father and Jesus Christ, the feeling in the room dramatically changed. God has promised us that he will send his Spirit (the Holy Ghost) to tell us the truth of all things, and that day, the Holy Ghost confirmed the truth of Joseph Smith's story. I know that God appeared to him, and that through him, we have a new record of scripture to confirm the truth of the Bible, and that The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints is the same church organized by Christ in His day, restored again to the earth, with a prophet and 12 apostles.

How I live my faith

I try to help the young single adult (ages 18-30) in my area find employment by networking and keeping open lines of communication.

What is The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints' attitude regarding homosexuality and same sex marriage?

I have many friends who deal with same-sex attraction; they are men and women who are funny, shy, hard-working, music-loving children of God. Many of them are extremely curious about my beliefs, and share some of the same views as me. As a member of the church, I know that marriage is something special that God has provided for a man and a woman to bring His children into this world with both a mom and a dad. Men and women have different inherent talents (women are nurturing and men need to feel fulfilled through work), and children can benefit most from the presence of both in their lives. I want all of God's children, both heterosexual, and homosexual, to be happy, and the way to that happiness is through obedience to our Heavenly Father. Show more Show less
