Hi I'm David

I'm a father of two and a civil engineer for a water utility company.

About Me

I am a father of a sweet little 2-yr old girl and a happy little less than one yr. old son. I am a project manager for a local water company. Any large infrastructure projects like pipelines, tanks, pump stations, treatment plants, etc. are my gig. After putting in 40 hrs, I enjoy playing w/ the kids, grilling, watching sports when I can (which is not often) - particularly college football & basketball and the NFL. Unfortunately, because of Church and being Sunday I don't watch NFL games (except on Monday). I often find my weekends taken up with home improvement projects from painting, to pulling shrubs & planting trees, to fixing stuff around the house. In the winter time the wife and I try to make at least one trek to the slopes and do some snowboarding. I wish I had the courage to be some dare-devil jumper/half pipe/rail type boarder but alas I am acutely aware of my own mortality so I don't dare. I can't afford to break my neck for the sake of being totally awesome so I settle for being slightly less than totally awesome. As a family we enjoy camping and being outdoors but it doesn't seem like we get there enough. Definitely gotta do that more. Finally, other interests I have are keeping up on the news through blogs and listening to music. I have a guitar and a piano and keep telling myself I need to get back into learning again on both but I end up doing those things I listed above. Plus, the little ones always try to help play. That makes it real hard.

Why I am a Mormon

I am a member of the Church because my parents are members and their parents were members. I have always believed the gospel of Jesus Christ but I cannot say that I always knew the gospel was true or that the Church is THE church of Jesus Christ. I had to find out on my own. While growing up I often had discussions about religion with my friends of other faiths which caused me to wonder about my own. My parents told me the gospel of Jesus Christ had been restored to the earth and that The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints was the true church of Christ. I wondered if my friends were being told that THEIR church was the true church of God by their parents. I believed my parents and my friends believed their parents. Who was right? Which church was the true church of Christ? I had often heard my parents & teachers in Church talk about the Book of Mormon and a promise in it, that if "ye would ask God, the Eternal Father, in the name of Christ, if these things are not true; and if ye shall ask with a sincere heart, with real intent, having faith in Christ, he will manifest the truth of it unto you by the power of the Holy Ghost." I did that. I asked. When I was about 12 I asked God if Joseph Smith was a prophet of God and if the Book of Mormon was true. In response to my prayer, I felt a burning in my heart that I have never felt since. It was unmistakable. I knew that Joseph smith was a prophet of God and that the Book of Mormon is true and therefore The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints is THE true church of Christ. During my life since then I have questioned wondering if I truly did KNOW. Each time I wondered, my mind would go back to that feeling - the answer from God - that YES, I did know. Joseph Smith was a prophet called of God, the church is Christ's restored church, and the Book of Mormon is true and is holy scripture like the Bible. I know it and I know that God knows that I know, and I cannot deny it.

How I live my faith

I try to live my faith the best I know how but, I recognize that I make mistakes. I try to study the Bible, Book of Mormon, and the teachings of current Church leaders in order to increase my faith and strength to be a better person. I try to help out the people I know the best I can and be kind to those I don't know. I have worked with the young men in our church congregation in Boy Scouts and currently work with the missionaries (those guys running around in white shirts w/ black name tags). I also try to volunteer when opportunities to serve others arise such helping people move, or volunteering at the church's welfare facilities that make food items for those in need. The gospel of Jesus Christ helps me to be a better husband and father. It makes me want to treat my wife and children with greater kindness and love. Because of this there is a happiness in our home. We are happy and our children are happy. Yes, we have our moments and are just like normal people - little kids with tantrums, etc. - but there is a happiness about them and I can sense that they know they are loved. My favorite place in the world is with my wife and children. I attribute this desire to sincerely living the gospel of Jesus Christ.
