Hi I'm Brian Raty

I am from Rexburg, Idaho. I am an art illustrator. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

Things I like to do are: camping, reading novels and history books, art, wood carving, watching movies, some audio editing, working outdoors, running, some weight lifting, swimming, some cooking. I have earned the eagle scout award, served a full time mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. I have earned a bachelor of science in art. I want to become an illustrator, although I do not know whether to become a freelance illustrator, work for a company, or teach. I currently try to practice my trade and take more classes when I can. I am married and have a wonderful daughter. I enjoy spending time with my wife and child and going on walks with them.

Why I am a Mormon

I was raised in the church. My parents taught me the gospel of Jesus Christ as long as I can remember. I read the Book of Mormon for the first time when I was young. It took me awhile, but I finished it, and I prayed to my Heavenly Father and asked Him if it was true. I felt an assuring feeling from the Holy Ghost that the book was true, and I have felt that assurance again while reading it over, or at other times in my life. I have a testimony in the Savior Jesus Christ, that He is our Savior and Redeemer and did come down and atoned for our sins. I have a testimony of the restoration of the gospel through the prophet Joseph Smith, and that Thomas S. Monson is the prophet today. I know that God is real, and that He cares for us. These things have blessed me many times, and have given me peace and direction, and comfort during challenging times in my life. The restored Gospel of Jesus Christ, and His Atonement have blessed me with strength to face challenges, to continue to have hope through sorrows, and have helped me be a better person than I could be on my own.

How I live my faith

In the church, there are geographical congregations called wards. Members serve in the wards they live in without pay in what are called "callings." My current calling (along with my wife) is a ward librarian. We basically take time during our church meetings to serve in the meetinghouse library, where members can access resources they need (such as manuals, classroom supplies, pictures, copies) for their church classes and callings.

Do Mormons worship Joseph Smith?

Brian Raty
We do not worship Joseph Smith. We worship our Heavenly Father in the name of Jesus Christ. The reason we mention so much about Joseph Smith is because we believe that he was called to be a prophet at the beginning of this dispensation (a period of time), much like Moses, Abraham, Elijah, and many others in ancient times. We are grateful to God for Joseph Smith's invaluable service and sacrifices he went through to help restore the fulness of Christ's church on the earth. Show more Show less
