Hi I'm Laura

I am a single mom of four. I am a high school teacher. I worked in theater professionally. I love the arts and I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I have home schooled my kids. I now teach high school English. I am a single mom of four wonderful children. I enjoy cooking, painting sometimes, and watching Dr. Who. I also love to read a good book and go camping. I work in our Primary helping to teach our children the gospel.

Why I am a Mormon

I chose to join the church after receiving a Book of Mormon. I sat and prayed earnestly to God to please help me to have a sincere and open heart and to help me to know if the Book of Mormon was true. I opened the book to 3Nephi 9: 13-14 and felt as if the Lord was speaking directly to me. I have been blessed to feel the Holy Spirit guide me in many of my life decisions, but none have been so important as the one I made when I was baptized. Being in the church and knowing the gospel has helped me through some very difficult trials. But through it all, I know that my Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ love and watch over me.

How I live my faith

We go to church almost every Sunday and try to fulfill the callings the Lord has asked us to do for Him. But I feel my faith the most when we kneel and pray together as a family or when we sit at the breakfast table and read scriptures. Twice a year we get to hear our prophets speak in a General Conference and this has become a special family time for us to sit together, make crafts, have snacks, and feel refreshed in our home. Although, we are the only immediate family in the church, we strive to stay true to the promises we have made to Heavenly Father. He does so much for us that those promises seem small sometimes, and other times they are more difficult to keep. But we keep trying and keep praying and keep listening to the Holy Spirit so that we can have the greatest blessing of all. To us, that is to be together forever as a family.

What is being a Mormon like?

Laura
It is wonderful. It is so essential and so much what I rely on from day to day to get me through the hard times that I cannot imagine how I would have gotten through without the church and the gospel. When all seems lost and your heart is broken, Jesus Christ is there to share your burden. And having a complete understanding and knowing Him so much more closely through the restored gospel has made my faith and my ability to rely on him stronger. There is a certain understanding to do good and to help one another and others within the church and this also helps to ease life's trials and burdens. It doesn't erase them, but the blessings and strength of the Lord make them feel so much lighter! Show more Show less
