Hi I'm Don

I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I'm a 62 year old Irish/Scot who just became a Mormon (Nov 2011). I have been around Mormons my entire life and have had several close friends who were of the Mormon faith however I never thought about attending the Mormon Church. I think it was because I was a drinker and cigar smoker. I also remember thinking as I passed the Mormon Church in Benson, Az on a daily basis that there always seemed to be a large number of automoboles parked there and I thought "they must have to go to Church everyday". About 18 months ago the Lord grabbed me by the hand and thru a series of events made it perfectly clear to me and my wife that we should explore the Mormon Church. After two months of teachings from the missionaries, reading parts of the Book of Mormon and alot of praying, we were baptized on Nov. 26, 2011. I can say it has been a life altering event. Not just the giving up the coffee and martini's but the comfort and peace it has brought to me has been remarkable. For the past 32 years I had attended a number of different churches and had always felt there was something missing. I now know it was the Book of Mormon and the completeness this gospel brings to my life. My wife and I have truly been blessed to come to the Church this late in our lives!

Why I am a Mormon

As mentioned above I always felt that there was something missing when we attended other Churches. Sometimes it was the knowledge that people spent an hour a week at Church and then went about their business for the rest of the week without even a thought about what had been talked about or prayed about at Church. Sometimes it was that uncertainty about where did I come from, why am I here and where am I going. Most of the time I was just in a state of confusion about religion and how I fit in the big scheme of things.

How I live my faith

My wife and I now spend our time reading not just the Bible, the Book of Mormon and select scriptures but also the history of the Church, the teaching of the prophets and various testimonies. We both received our first callings as Ward Missionaries, so we spend alot of time telling our story to Church members both active and nonactive as well as investigators and potential investigators. I also spend time explaining my decision to join the Church to old friends and acquaintances and trying to live a worthy life.
