Hi I'm Dave

I’m a husband, a father, a grandfather. Retired airline pilot. Retired veteran and Air Force pilot. I’m a Mormon.

About Me

My sweetheart and I put two families together - long ago. We have ten children and now have grand and great-grandchildren. They are the light of our lives. We have been blessed to live in many places, the longest having been in northern Illinois, Utah and Arizona. We have loved the people in every place we’ve been blessed to live. This land truly is a great land. My adult and professional life (until retirement) has revolved around flying, a passion I have had since a youth, in both the Air Force and airline capacities. For many years while living in Illinois, EAA (Experiential Aircraft Association) and Oshkosh, Wisconsin were part of the summer activities. Spending time with family, exploring the great outdoors of America and travel are activities that are important to me, even now while retired. I love getting off the main roads and exploring the backways and byways. If there is a road or path I haven’t been on, I want to see where it goes. A true vehicle has to have wings or 4-wheel drive or be two leg powered wheels! If it’s unpaved, it is pure delight! I still ride my bike everywhere my aging legs will take me.

Why I am a Mormon

As a young man, actually serving in the Army at that time, I came face to face with the Book of Mormon at Fort Ord, California and Ft. Sill, Oklahoma and that experience changed my life forever. The Book of Mormon became the rock of my conversion and it's truthfulness was fully manifested to me in experiences at Ft. Sill. After that experience, that served as the catalyst for my conversion, and leaving the military for a time I served as a missionary in Germany and came to love that land and it’s people. That experience became an anchor that has impacted my life every day since then and the Gospel of Jesus Christ has been the focal point of my life since then. Everything good that has happened to me since is because of these two experiences. Since those days I have had a multitude of spiritual experiences, every one of them reaffirming to me that God lives and that Jesus Christ is His only Begotten Son. Reaffirming that prophets have again been called to the earth and that Joseph Smith was the first of those. Reaffirming that the Church of Jesus Christ, directed on a daily basis by the Savior, is again upon the earth. That the Heavens are not closed and that revelation comes through his prophets to guide us today. That the Book of Mormon, another Witness of Jesus Christ, was translated by revelation and is among the many fruits that are part of this restoration. Reaffirming that this life is but a stage of our eternal existence and that eternal family relationships are part of God's plan for every person who lives, past present or in the future if they are willing to follow the Savior and keep his commandments. Because of the Gospel, my life has meaning and purpose.

How I live my faith

Most of my adult life, I have had the opportunity to serve others in multiple responsibilities in both large regional groups of congregations (Stakes), and local congregations (Wards) where we have lived. I have been stretched beyond my natural abilities many times as I learned and developed new talents. I feel like I been blessed and benefited from this even more than those I have served if that is possible. One of the things that continues to amaze me is the innate goodness and desire to serve God, the Savior and others by so many people simply out of love for one another. I have been tutored and mentored by wise, loving and caring servants of God from all walks of life. Daily I see the others example of "... when ye are in the service of your fellowmen, ye are in the service of God". It lifts me up and helps me as I also strive to follow their example and help lift others.
